Top-tier Delta Medallion members are now able to select their Choice Benefits, among the best perks of the SkyMiles loyalty program, in the Fly Delta app. And soon, the app will be the only way to choose them. The Delta website will no longer offer that functionality.

Since February 1, 2025, Platinum and Diamond Medallion members have been able to select their Choice Benefits through the app — something that was previously only available online. And the online ability will go away later this year.

Here’s what you need to know about this important change for Delta’s elite status members.

How Delta Choice Benefits Selection Is Changing

Choice Benefits is one of the elite status perks that gets unlocked at the Platinum Medallion level for Delta flyers. These perks are available immediately upon achieving status and must be selected by January 31 of the following calendar year. Otherwise, you forfeit them altogether.

On February 1 of this year, Choice Benefits became available for selection through the Fly Delta app. And starting June 1, 2025, Choice Benefit selection will be available only through the Fly Delta app. (The Fly Delta app is available on the App Store for Apple devices and on Google Play for Android devices.)

The switch to using the app only won’t change the benefits available to Delta’s top elite status holders — just the way they’re selected.

Platinum Medallion members can choose 1 benefit, while Diamond Medallion members can choose 3 benefits. Some SkyMiles Choice Benefits are better than others, like the upgrade certificates or Medallion Qualification Dollar (MQD) accelerator, while other options like bonus Starbucks Stars should be avoided.

How To Choose Benefits on the Delta Website

The Choice Benefits selection page isn’t the easiest to find. Members have to log in to their Delta account online, hit “SkyMiles,” “My SkyMiles,” and then select “View Your Benefits” from the top of the page to make the selection.

It’s also possible to click “Select Your Choice Benefits” on this page:

This is the option that’s going away on June 1, so we recommend that Delta Platinum and Diamond elites familiarize themselves with Choice Benefit selection in the Fly Delta app.

How To Choose Benefits in the Delta App

To select Choice Benefits in the Fly Delta app, first go to the Account tab in the app, which you’ll find at the bottom of the screen. This will bring up several options, one of which is Choice Benefits.

Hitting the Choice Benefits option will bring up a screen showing your options, depending on your status level — Platinum or Diamond.

The same deadlines apply to benefit selection in the app as on the site.

How To Earn Delta Elite Status

After the sweeping changes to its Medallion program Delta made in 2023, elite status requirements at every level are higher, and Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) are the only metric that counts towards status.

Here’s where the thresholds stand now:

  • Silver: 5,000 MQDs
  • Gold: 10,000 MQDs
  • Platinum: 15,000 MQDs
  • Reserve: 28,000 MQDs

Generally, you can earn 1 MQD per $1 spent with the airline. However, there are shortcuts to earning status with certain premium Delta credit cards, which give you an automatic 2,500 MQD boost just by having the card.

Another important (and recent) change for Delta elites is that new, more restrictive rules for access to Sky Club lounges went into effect on February 1.

Cards with Delta lounge access will be limited to a certain number of days to visit Sky Clubs per year:

Hot Tip:

You can also earn 1 MQD per $20 spent on eligible purchases with the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card and Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card, as well as 1 MQD per $10 spent on eligible purchases with the Delta Reserve card and Delta Reserve Business card.

Final Thoughts

Delta is clearly pushing to get its most frequent flyers to use the Fly Delta app more consistently. Beginning June 1, the only way to select Choice Benefits — among the most attractive perks of Delta’s top status levels — will be via the app. It won’t be possible to use the Delta site for that anymore.

It’s a small but important change to the way Platinum and Diamond Medallions interact with their airline of choice.

*Starting February 1, 2025, cardholders receive 15 visits per year to the Delta Sky Club; to earn an unlimited number of visits each year starting on February 1, 2025, the total eligible purchases on the card must equal $75,000 or more between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024, and each calendar year thereafter.

**Effective February 1, 2025, Amex Platinum cardholders will only receive 10 visits per year to the Delta Sky Club. To earn an unlimited number of visits, you need to spend at least $75,000 on your Amex Platinum card between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024, and each calendar year thereafter.
