It’s getting much easier for top-tier Medallion members to choose their Choice Benefits, 1 of the best perks of this elite status program.

Delta Air Lines quietly announced that starting February 1, 2025, Platinum and Diamond Medallion members can choose their Choice Benefits through the app — something that was previously only available online.

Here’s what you need to know about this small but exciting change for elite status members.

Delta Makes It Easier To Select Choice Benefits

Choice Benefits is one of the elite status perks that gets unlocked at the Platinum Medallion level. These perks are available immediately upon achieving status and must be selected by January 31 of the following calendar year. Otherwise, you forfeit them altogether.

Platinum Medallion members can choose 1 benefit, while Diamond Medallion members can choose 3 benefits. Some SkyMiles Choice Benefits are better than others, like the upgrade certificates or Medallion Qualification Dollar (MQD) accelerator, while other options like bonus Starbucks Stars should be avoided.

The Choice Benefits selection page hasn’t been the easiest to find. Members have to log onto their Delta account online, hit “SkyMiles,” “My SkyMiles,” then “Choice Benefits” to make the selection. (Our guess is that many elite status members miss the deadline to select these Choice Benefits since it’s so hidden on the website.)

Now, Delta says, “Beginning February 1, 2025, enjoy a more seamless experience by selecting your Choice Benefits through the Fly Delta app.” This is a small but welcome improvement for making it easier than ever to choose your Choice Benefits for the upcoming year. That’s listed in a footnote on this page.

How To Earn Delta Elite Status

In late 2023, Delta made sweeping changes to its Medallion program. The airline hiked elite status requirements at every level and unified its elite status qualification requirement to MQDs. Here’s where the thresholds stand now:

  • Silver: 5,000 MQDs
  • Gold: 10,000 MQDs
  • Platinum: 15,000 MQDs
  • Reserve: 28,000 MQDs

Generally, you can earn 1 MQD per $1 spent with the airline. However, there are shortcuts to earning status with certain premium Delta credit cards, which give you an automatic 2,500 MQD boost just by having the card.

Come 2025, there will be several changes to Delta Sky Club access policies. Also on February 1, 2025, cards with Delta lounge access will be limited to a certain number of days to visit Sky Clubs per year.

Hot Tip:

You can also earn 1 MQD per $10 spent on eligible purchases with the Delta Platinum card and Delta Platinum Business card, as well as 1 MQD per $20 spent on eligible purchases with the Delta Reserve card and Delta Reserve Business card.

Final Thoughts

We’re just a few months away from Delta rolling out some major changes with its Sky Club policies. However, on February 1, we should also see the ability to choose Choice Benefits easily through the app, which is a nice improvement for the Medallion program.

*Starting February 1, 2025, cardholders receive 15 visits per year to the Delta Sky Club; to earn an unlimited number of visits each year starting on February 1, 2025, the total eligible purchases on the card must equal $75,000 or more between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024, and each calendar year thereafter.

**Effective February 1, 2025, Amex Platinum cardholders will only receive 10 visits per year to the Delta Sky Club. To earn an unlimited number of visits, you need to spend at least $75,000 on your Amex Platinum card between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024, and each calendar year thereafter.
