Travelers based in the U.S. are basically always going to have a difficult time finding good fares to the African continent. This is twice as true if you’re looking to fly in business class. That’s why we ran to tell you when we found this deal that features round-trip business class tickets for under $1,800.

That’s an incredible price — here’s what you need to know!

Fare Deal — Details

We last posted a deal like this in December 2023, when Ethiopian Airlines was offering these same flights for $1,894. The best news is that they’ve dropped even further!

These seats boast lie-flat seats in business class, which means you’ll be able to get a good night’s sleep on the way over.

  • Class: Business
  • Routes: New York (JFK) to Lagos, Nigeria (LOS)
  • Dates: February 2024 to January 2025
  • Rates: From $1,757 round-trip

The cheapest fares you’ll find are on flights operated by Ethiopian Airlines.

These fares are available throughout the calendar, even during busy periods such as summer and Christmas.

We can’t stress how rare it is to find sub-$2,000 business class fares from the U.S. to Africa. Even if you’re not looking to travel to Nigeria, this could be an excellent option for jumping off to another destination.

Best Ways to Book

The cheapest rates you’re going to find are by using a third-party site such as Expedia or Priceline. However, you’ll always want to take care when booking somewhere other than directly with an airline. This is because any changes or alterations to your booking must be made through the agency rather than with the airline itself, which can cause a lot of frustration.

If your plans are pretty solid and you want to use an online travel agency (OTA), consider paying with a card such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, which allows you to earn 3x Ultimate Rewards points on all travel purchases. It also has excellent complimentary travel insurance.

If you prefer to book directly with the airline of your choice, consider The Platinum Card® from American Express, which earns 5x Membership Rewards points on flights booked directly with the airline or through (capped at $500,000 spent in purchases per calendar year, then 1x points).

Final Thoughts

Although these aren’t the fanciest business class products you’ll ever experience, both of these carriers offer lie-flat seats on the journey to Africa.

If you have plans in 2024 — whether in Nigeria or another African country — book now before these prices disappear!
