There’s a fantastic premium economy deal between Los Angeles and Mexico City starting at under $500 round-trip.
Here’s what you need to know about the deal and how to book it.
Fare Deal — The Details
This premium economy deal is on the nonstop route between Los Angeles (LAX) and Mexico City (MEX) on Aeromexico, Mexico’s flag carrier. The cheapest option gets you a premium economy seat (dubbed AM Plus), priority boarding, a free carry-on, and ticket changes for a fee.
While this is a pretty short flight (blocked at around 4 hours), this can be a great option if you are looking for extra legroom and faster boarding at an affordable price.
Play around with your dates on Google Flights and then book directly through Aeromexico or an online travel agency (OTA) such as Expedia. You may find cheaper rates on a lesser-known OTA, but if you want peace of mind, should you need to change or cancel, you might want to avoid this option.
- Class: Premium economy
- Routes: Los Angeles (LAX) to Mexico City (MEX)
- Dates: Select dates between December 2023 and August 2024
- Rates: As low as $487 round-trip
How To Book
This route has widespread availability, so you should have no problem finding a premium economy ticket for around $500 round-trip. Later dates in 2024 may be available at a higher price.
Once you’ve selected travel dates, you’ll want to think about which credit card you will use. It’s important to book your ticket with a credit card that rewards for flights or general travel purchases. Some of our favorites at Upgraded Points include:
- The Platinum Card® from American Express (5x points for flights booked directly with airlines or with AmexTravel.com up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year, then 1x)
- Chase Sapphire Reserve® (5x points on flights booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards; 3x points on all other travel purchases)
- Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (5x points on travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards; 2x points on all other travel worldwide)

This is an excellent fare deal between Los Angeles and Mexico City, giving you as much as 4 hours in premium economy with extra legroom. Still, this deal likely won’t last forever, so if you’re interested in visiting Mexico City, you’d better book before it’s gone!
