Want to build up your stash of Delta SkyMiles? You’re in luck because Delta is offering 2 different promotions this week that’ll allow you to earn 4x miles per $1 spent on your purchases. Let’s take a look.
Earn 4x Miles With Delta Gift Cards
The first of these promotions will net you 4x SkyMiles per $1 spent on Delta gift cards, though you must purchase a minimum of $250 worth:
- Buy $250+ in Delta gift cards, receive 4x miles per $1 spent
- Must buy cards using the promotion page
- Valid for purchase from now through November 28, 2022
- Allow 14 days for bonus miles to post
- Only those with a U.S. address are eligible for the promotion
Hot Tip: Delta gift cards aren’t processed via the airline, which means you’ll want to use a card that maximizes your everyday spending, such as the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card.
Earn 4x Miles on Hotel Stays
The second promotion available to customers will earn them 4x SkyMiles per $1 spent on hotel stays booked through Delta’s hotel site:
- Valid from now through November 28, 2022
- Earn 4x miles per $1 spent
- Complete your stay within the next 12 months
- Must include your SkyMiles number at the time of booking
Is It Worth It?
Although both of these promotions will give you 4x miles for every dollar that you spend, they’re definitely not equal. We value Delta SkyMiles at 1.2 cents each, which means you’ll net a 4.8% return on either of these offers. While that represents a pretty good deal when it comes to purchasing Delta gift cards, the same can’t be said for booking hotels.
There are a couple of reasons for this. First, hotels booked through third parties — as this would be — are generally not eligible for elite night credits or any benefits of elite status. That means you’ll miss out on some big benefits if you hold elite status with hotels. Second, there are a great many hotel credit cards that’ll give you a better return on your spend than 4.8%
The Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card, for example, earns 14x Hilton Honors points per $1 spent with Hilton properties. We value Hilton points at 0.5 cents each, so you’ll be earning a 7% return on your stays right off the bat. And because the Hilton Aspire card grants you top-tier Hilton elite status, you’ll want to factor in the additional 20x points per $1 spent, making your actual net return 17%. That far outstrips the benefits you’d see from booking with Delta.
Final Thoughts
These are some pretty decent promotions if you’re looking to bulk up your Delta SkyMiles balance, but 1 far outstrips the other. Purchase $250+ worth of Delta cards by November 28, 2022, to earn your 4x miles per $1 spent, but skip the hotel booking in favor of better returns with other cards.
