Delta is probably my favorite U.S. airline, but I rarely fly with it. I live in South Florida, and American Airlines’ network out of Miami works much better for my trips, especially when I’m headed to the Caribbean or Latin America. I also have status with AA, so that tends to settle the decision.

Still, I’m seriously considering the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card because of its massive limited-time welcome offer. It’s enough to make me think about where Delta could fit into my travel plans.

Here’s why I’m contemplating applying for the Delta Reserve Business card, even though I don’t fly Delta very often.

The Delta Reserve Business Card’s 200K-Mile Welcome Offer Has My Attention

The Delta Reserve Business card has this welcome offer:

  • Limited Time Offer: Earn 200,000 Bonus Miles after spending $20,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 6 months of Card Membership. Offer ends 11/4/26.

We value this welcome offer at up to $2,400 towards future Delta Air Lines or SkyTeam partner flights.

The spending requirement to earn 200,000 Delta SkyMiles is high, and the card has a $650 annual fee (rates & fees). Those are real hurdles. But I can picture how I’d use the miles, which is why I am so intrigued by it.

The card also takes 15% off awards on Delta-operated flights and includes 15 visits to Delta Sky Clubs per year when flying Delta, with the ability to unlock unlimited visits with spending.

After renewing the card, you receive an annual companion certificate that can be used for an eligible round-trip flight in Delta First, Delta Comfort, or Delta Main, including select Caribbean and Central American destinations. If I applied for the card, I’d need to use those benefits to feel good about keeping this $650 card beyond the first year.

Why I’m Seriously Considering the Delta Reserve Business Card

I Know I Can Use SkyMiles for Domestic Trips

I’ve had the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card before, so I’ve already accrued a good chunk of SkyMiles and redeemed them for plenty of flights.

For Thanksgiving this year, I booked flights for my family from Fort Lauderdale to New York City for around 10,000 SkyMiles per person. When a fare like that comes up, I’m happy to have some SkyMiles sitting in my account, as the timing of the Delta flight worked perfectly for our schedule.

That’s part of the appeal of this offer for me. I don’t need every trip to be an elaborate premium-cabin redemption. Sometimes I just need to have some miles handy for domestic flights within the U.S. and to get my family from Point A to Point B.

A few domestic award flights at good rates could make a real dent in what I’d otherwise spend in cash on family travel. The card’s “Take Off 15” award discount would also reduce the mileage cost by 15% and help stretch a 200,000-mile welcome offer even further on eligible Delta flights.

I’d Love to Finally Try Delta One

I’ve flown some memorable premium cabins on international airlines, but I still haven’t flown Delta One. I’ve always wondered how Delta’s long-haul business class compares.

This bonus could give me a reason to book Delta One with miles and hopefully have my wife join me on a fun, kid-free getaway.

Delta One awards to Europe were recently available for 115,000 SkyMiles one-way, but that was a solid deal, and I wouldn’t assume I could find 2 seats at that price. I’d search routes and dates that work for us first. If I found a Delta-operated award at a price I liked, the card’s 15% discount would help make the trip happen.

Even if that trip doesn’t come to fruition, I know from my past bookings that I could redeem SkyMiles for flights closer to home. That makes the Delta One idea exciting without having to depend on it to justify the welcome offer.

Hot Tip:

The card’s “Take Off 15” award discount applies to Delta-operated flights, including Delta One. If I found 2 seats priced at 115,000 miles each, the discount would bring them to 97,750 miles apiece. That would put both seats within reach of the 200,000-mile bonus, though I’d still have to find award flights at that price.

The Spending Requirement Works With How I Pay Taxes

The $20,000 minimum spending requirement is a sticking point for many business owners. For me, paying estimated taxes as a freelancer offers a way to meet the requirement without stressing for 6 months about how I’m going to spend enough to earn the bonus.

That said, there’s a cost to paying taxes with a credit card. The IRS currently lists Pay1040’s fee for commercial credit cards at 2.89%. On a $20,000 tax payment, that’s $578 in processing fees, on top of the card’s $650 annual fee.

But if I decide to go for it and apply, I know how I’d meet the spending requirement and earn the welcome offer.

Final Thoughts

I keep coming back to the different ways I could use 200,000 Delta SkyMiles.

I could book several domestic trips with my family, much like the Fort Lauderdale-to-New York flights I found for Thanksgiving. Or, if the right award comes along, I could finally book Delta One and maybe even have my wife along for the ride.

The $20,000 minimum spending requirement to earn the welcome offer and the extra cost of paying taxes by card still give me pause. But I know how I’d meet the requirement, and I have plenty of ideas for using the miles, from family trips to a possible Delta One flight.

The offer ends November 4, 2026, and I’m leaning toward applying before then. Earning the card’s highest-ever welcome offer would add 200,000 SkyMiles to my account and give me plenty of options for flying Delta more often.
