Delta Air Lines is expanding Down Under with a new seasonal flight between Los Angeles (LAX) and Brisbane (BNE).

Let’s take a look at the new route!

3x Weekly Service Starts in December

Delta will start nonstop seasonal service between LAX and BNE 3x weekly between December 4, 2024, and March 28, 2025.

This will become Delta’s second nonstop flight to Australia — the airline also serves Sydney (LAX) with 14 flights weekly.  Delta will join United in U.S. airlines flying between LAX and BNE. Qantas also flies nonstop from LAX to Brisbane.

“With this addition of Brisbane, Delta’s upcoming winter schedule will offer our customers up to 17 weekly flights between the U.S. and Australia,” said Joe Esposito, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Delta. “This marks our most extensive schedule to the South Pacific to date, and as we build our presence in the region, we know our customers will enjoy the enhanced experience consistently provided by Delta.”

Bottom Line:

Delta will fly the Airbus A350-900 jet on the route, which features 4 classes: Delta One Suites, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin.

Booking Flights to Brisbane

Unfortunately, the new route doesn’t appear to be loaded on Delta’s website, so we cannot see how much flights will cost in cash or Delta SkyMiles.

While we wait for more details about the route, let’s take a look at your other options.

As I mentioned above, United and Qantas also fly the route. You’ll find cash prices between LAX and BNE starting at $1,100 one-way for dates next January. I

f you want to book using United MileagePlan miles, you’ll find economy tickets for 55,000 miles one-way. However, business class tickets will set you back a whopping 250,000 miles each way. If you’re short on United miles, you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards to United at a 1:1 ratio or open 1 of the best credit cards for United flyers.

If you have Aeroplan points, you can find economy awards starting at 50,000 points each way. Aeroplan points are incredibly easy to earn, as you can transfer American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Chase, Capital One Miles, and Marriott Bonvoy points to the program.

There’s scant availablilty using American AAdvantage miles for Qantas awards, though you can find economy tickets starting at 40,000 miles each way in late 2024. You can earn American miles quickly by transferring Marriott points to the program.

Final Thoughts

Delta is launching seasonal flights to Brisbane from its hub in Los Angeles. This is excellent news for SkyTeam travelers who will now be able to earn and redeem miles on the route. While we don’t know how many miles will be required for award tickets yet, this is the perfect time to earn Delta SkyMiles to book when the route goes live!
