Delta has just unveiled the details of its new Comfort Basic product.

The new economy ticket option is available on select routes departing on or after November 19. The addition of Comfort Basic means you’ll have as many as 6 economy fares to choose from when booking a Delta flight.

Here’s what this could mean for you when booking your next Delta flight in economy.

What Is Excluded From Delta’s Comfort Basic Fare?

Delta Comfort Basic is designed for travelers who want some of the premium perks that come with Delta Comfort but without the price tag.

As a Delta Comfort passenger, you’re still flying in economy, but you’ll enjoy certain extra perks like more legroom, priority boarding, and lounge access eligibility (with required Sky Club membership or qualifying credit card).

The new entry-level tier of Delta’s Comfort product will encompass the vast majority of the features offered in the Classic and Extra packages.

However, Delta Comfort Basic tickets will come with the following restrictions that Classic and Extra don’t:

Comfort Basic tickets aren’ eligible for upgrades
Same-day confirmed changes are not permitted
Same-day standby is not permitted
Seats can only be assigned after check-in
Only partial eCredit refunds are allowed
A fee will be charged for changes to the booking

Delta doesn’t disclose exactly how much cheaper the new Comfort Basic fare will be than Comfort Classic. The only information we have to go by is this infographic, which shows a $100 difference between each of the 3 Comfort fare types.

Which Routes Can I Book With Delta’s New Comfort Basic?

Delta’s new Comfort Basic fares should be live and available to book now. However, I just checked around a dozen routes from Delta’s hub airports around the country, and Comfort Basic fares didn’t appear once.

The information provided by Delta specifies that Comfort Basic is only available on select domestic routes from November 19.

“Delta Comfort Basic is currently available only on very select Delta-marketed and operated domestic itineraries. If you don’t see Delta Comfort Basic as an option during booking, it means it’s not currently available for that flight or route,” said Delta in a press release.

If you have a Delta co-branded credit card in your wallet, you’ll never have to worry about paying for a more expensive fare to enjoy certain perks and benefits most travelers care about, like early boarding and a complimentary checked bag.

In a nutshell, the main thing you lose with Delta’s new Comfort Basic fare is flexibility.

It could undoubtedly be of interest for travelers who know they won’t need to change their flights, aren’t bothered about upgrades, and don’t mind potentially being assigned a middle seat but still prefer to have extra creature comforts like more legroom and lounge access.
