The Oneworld alliance is growing, and a new airline is joining the program. Fijian carrier Fiji Airways has joined the Oneworld alliance as a full member, giving its travelers a ton of benefits.

Here’s what you need to know.

Fiji Joins Oneworld on April 1

Fiji Airways will join the Oneworld alliance, a network of airlines that includes American Airlines, British Airways, and Qantas.

As a member of the Oneworld alliance, Fiji’s customers will have access to:

  • Nearly 700 airport lounges globally
  • Priority check-in and boarding
  • Earning and redeeming miles
  • Earning Tier Points

This news isn’t exactly a surprise. It was announced last year that Fiji would join the Oneworld alliance in 2025. At the time, the airline also announced that it would adopt American Airlines’ AAdvantage as its loyalty program, meaning you’ll use that program to earn and redeem miles and to accrue elite status.

“As a full member, we are excited to offer our customers even greater benefits and seamless connectivity across the extensive Oneworld network,” said Fiji’s CEO Andre Viljoen. “We look forward to welcoming more Oneworld customers onboard to experience the beauty of Fiji and the exceptional service of Fiji Airways.”

Hot Tip:

How To Fly to Fiji From the U.S.

Fiji Airways is based at Nadi (NAN) and Suva (SUV) and serves 100+ destinations in more than 14 countries. The airline has a growing U.S. market, serving 4 U.S. cities:Dallas (DFW), Honolulu (HNL), Los Angeles (LAX), and San Francisco (SFO). Additionally, the airline serves Vancouver (YVR) in British Columbia.

Dallas is 1 of Fiji Airways’ newest routes, launching in November 2024. As the airline’s longest direct route, it flies over 6,000 miles between the 2 destinations

One-way tickets in economy can be found for around 40,000 AAdvantage miles. That aligns with American’s partner award chart, which is fixed.

However, it’s a different story entirely for business class. It appears that business class flights may be priced dynamically. There’s little availability for 80,000 miles each way, with most flights pricing between 230,000 and 288,000 miles each way.

This confirms our earlier suspicions that American may potentially use dynamic pricing on Fiji Airways awards. If that’s the case, you can expect to shell out more miles to fly business class to Fiji. We’ve reached out to American Airlines for more information.

Final Thoughts

Fiji Airways is officially joining the Oneworld alliance as a full member, giving travelers a suite of benefits like lounge access, priority boarding, and more.

Unfortunately, it appears that American intends to price (at least some) Fiji Airways awards dynamically, a departure from other partner awards. We’ll keep an eye on this and will update this post when we know more.
