FNBO has added a new option to its credit card lineup, aimed at travelers who don’t want to pay an annual fee.

The new Complete Rewards^® Visa Signature^® Card earns 5x points on travel, with additional rewards on streaming services and gas purchases. However, there’s one drawback you’ll want to know about before applying.

The Complete Rewards Visa Signature card comes with a welcome offer of 15,000 bonus points after spending $500 within the first 3 billing cycles after account opening. FNBO says those points are worth $150, making this a straightforward bonus with a relatively low spending requirement.

The card has no annual fee and earns:

5x points on travel purchases
3x points on streaming services
2x points on fuel purchases
1x point on all other purchases

The 5x travel category is easily the card’s most interesting feature, especially since the card doesn’t charge an annual fee. That said, since FNBO values each point at 1 cent, earning 5x points on travel is essentially the same as getting 5% back.

Cardholders can redeem their points for cash-back, gift cards, travel, or merchandise. FNBO values the 15,000-point welcome bonus at $150, suggesting a value of 1 cent per point, though some redemption options may offer less value.

However, one drawback is its 3% foreign transaction fee, so you’ll want to leave it at home when traveling internationally. As a Visa Signature card, it also comes with benefits such as Visa Zero Liability protection, emergency card replacement assistance, and access to pay-per-use roadside dispatch.

This card isn’t all that attractive when you consider how many better options are available. Several no-annual-fee cards — including the Chase Freedom Unlimited^®, Citi Double Cash^® Card, and Citi Strata℠ Card — offer more value for everyday spending. There are also plenty of travel rewards cards with stronger benefits and access to more valuable rewards programs, as well as no foreign transaction fees.

Final Thoughts

The Complete Rewards Visa Signature card’s 5x travel category sounds appealing, but it’s less exciting than many stronger overall rewards cards. The $150 welcome bonus is easy to earn, though it’s also on the smaller side.

The 3% foreign transaction fee is the main drawback, especially for a card that rewards travel purchases. It could make sense for booking trips from home, but you’ll want to use a different card once you’re abroad. Overall, most travelers can probably find a no-annual-fee card that offers better long-term value.
