There’s some exciting news from Hawaiian Airlines today: the Honolulu-based (HNL) airline will open a gorgeous new premium lounge in the coming years.

Here’s what you need to know.

Hawaiian Airlines Releases Details About New Premium Lounge

Hawaiian Airlines announced on January 9 that it would open a flagship, premium lounge at its main hub, Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL). The lounge will be located at the entrance to the Mauka Concourse in Terminal 1.

The lounge is expected to open to visitors at the end of 2027. However, an exact date has not been mentioned. More details, including guest access policies, will be shared “at a later date,” Hawaiian said in its announcement.

Hawaiian released some renderings of the lounge, giving us a sense of what we can expect when it opens. The airline says the lounge will be inspired by “Hawaii’s rich natural elements” and will include bold colors and sculptures.

“Our new Honolulu lounge will be a celebration of our guest’s voyage, thoughtfully crafted to honor the beauty and warmth of our island home,” said Alisa Onishi, director of brand and culture at Hawaiian Airlines. “This space reinforces our commitment to providing an unrivaled travel experience that reflects the purpose and values of our hometown airline.”

One of the First Major Announcements Since Alaska Merger

Last fall, Alaska Airlines completed its acquisition of Hawaiian. Since then, the 2 airlines (which will remain separate entities) have been making some adjustments to how members can status match between programs, and the airlines plan to unveil a unified loyalty program this year.

However, this is one of the first infrastructural updates we’ve seen so far post-merger.

The new lounge, when it opens in 2027, will certainly be a welcome amenity for travelers at HNL. Given the airport’s status as a hub for continental U.S. and Asia flights, a handful of airlines have lounges here, including American Airlines, ANA, and Delta Air Lines.

Bottom Line:

Hawaiian has 3 lounges in Honolulu: the Plumeria Lounge, the Premier Club for premium passengers and elite status holders, and the Apt. 1929 Lounge, all located in Terminal 1. The Plumeria Lounge is a Priority Pass lounge and often experiences overcrowding. While the Apt. 1929 Lounge is super-luxe, it’s also pricey at $500 per couple. Hawaiian says the new lounge will be 5 times larger than the existing lounge.

Final Thoughts

This is exciting news from Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines. Hawaiian will open a brand-new lounge, which will help with overcrowding from its exciting lounge. We’ll keep an eye on this news and will update this post as we learn more information about opening dates, access rules, and guest policies.
