Hilton Honors is making major — but positive — changes to its loyalty program, starting in 2026.

“Members have told us they are looking for more personal recognition and meaningful rewards throughout their travel journey,” said Chris Nassetta, Hilton’s president and chief executive officer. “At a time when many loyalty programs feel increasingly interchangeable, we’re strengthening Hilton Honors for every member.”

The hotel giant has officially pulled back the curtain on its most exclusive elite tier, Diamond Reserve, and has even lowered requirements for a couple of existing levels, too. Here’s what you need to know about the changes coming on January 1.

How To Earn Hilton Honors Diamond Reserve Status

As it stands, Diamond is the highest elite status tier of the Hilton Honors program. You can earn it with 60 nights, 30 stays, or 120,000 base points. On the other hand, you can skip the requirements entirely by opening the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card, which grants instant Diamond status.

But many loyal Hilton travelers have long felt that the Diamond tier doesn’t deliver meaningful enough benefits. That’s where the new Diamond Reserve tier comes in.

Rumors have been swirling for weeks, and now, it’s official: Hilton is adding a true top-of-the-top elite level. Earning it will require a 2-step qualification: by completing 80 nights or 40 stays, and spending $18,000 per year on eligible Hilton purchases.

Unlike Diamond, you won’t be able to shortcut your way to Diamond Reserve with a co-branded credit card.

With that said, is Diamond Reserve really worth more nights or stays and that hefty annual spend? Hilton is betting on it. Here’s what you get at this new exclusive level.

Hilton Honors Diamond Reserve Benefits

This ultra-elite tier comes with Hilton’s richest benefits to date. The headline benefit is easily an annual Confirmable Upgrade Reward (CUR), which can be applied at the time of booking. This allows travelers to lock in a premium room upgrade — on either cash or award stays — for up to 7 nights directly through the Hilton Honors website or mobile app (iOS, Android).

Eligible upgrades can include premium rooms all the way up to a 1-bedroom suite. Hilton aims to make this new perk “the best in the industry,” as members can secure a suite upgrade as far as 11 months before their stay.

Diamond Reserve members can earn up to 2 Confirmable Upgrade Rewards each year. The first is granted immediately upon qualifying for Diamond Reserve, and a second can be earned after reaching 120 nights. (Alternatively, Diamond Reserve members can choose to earn 30,000 redeemable Hilton Honors points rather than another upgrade reward.)

Confirmable Upgrade Rewards can be used at any Hilton Honors-participating property, which includes “brands like Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, LXR Hotels & Resorts, Signia by Hilton, and Curio Collection by Hilton,” according to Hilton.

Other benefits of Diamond Reserve status include:

  • Guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout on every eligible stay — a first for Hilton Honors
  • 24/7 Diamond Reserve concierge-style desk for priority customer support and arranging personalized touches and “surprise and delight moments” for guests
  • Complimentary access to executive lounges (in addition to premium clubs) found at select luxury, lifestyle, and full-service hotels
  • Highest complimentary upgrade priority, with room upgrades granted as early as 3 days before check-in
  • Earn 120% bonus points on every stay

Executive lounges are a tier above standard premium clubs, available at all Signia hotels and select high-end properties, such as the Conrad Washington, DC.

Hilton Honors has never before offered complimentary access to these premium lounges, which provide daily breakfast and dinner.

Hilton Honors Lowers Other Elite Status Requirements

While the launch of Diamond Reserve undoubtedly steals the spotlight, that’s not all the program has to offer. It will be easier than ever to organically earn Hilton Honors status starting January 1, 2026:

  • Silver: 4 stays, 10 nights, or $2,500 in spend (the latter was previously 25,000 base points)
  • Gold: 15 stays, 25 nights, or $6,000 in spend (previously 20 stays, 40 nights, or 75,000 base points)
  • Diamond: 25 stays, 50 nights, or $11,500 in spend (previously 30 stays, 60 nights, or 120,000 base points)
  • Diamond Reserve: 40 stays or 80 nights plus $18,000 in spend

You’ll notice that the stay and night requirements for Gold and Diamond have been significantly reduced. For example, earning status will require 38% fewer nights for Gold and 17% fewer nights for Diamond. Across all tiers, though, Hilton Honors has also eliminated the base point qualification option, replacing it with an annual eligible spend requirement.

More importantly, Hilton Honors isn’t taking anything away from existing elite members — all current benefits will remain intact.

Hot Tip:

You can enroll in automatic Hilton Honors Gold status by having the Platinum Card® from American Express or The Business Platinum Card® from American Express — bypassing all of those elite night requirements altogether.

Final Thoughts

Loyalty program changes can be hit or miss, but overall, these updates to one of the world’s largest hotel programs are promising. While most travelers won’t reach the new Diamond Reserve tier due to the $18,000 spend requirement, that’s intentional. Hilton Honors is targeting its most dedicated (and highest-spending) members, keeping the circle limited “in the thousands, not millions,” with perks designed to be both practical and genuinely valuable.

This marks only the start of what’s ahead for Hilton Honors. Executives behind the program emphasize that their priority for 2026 is delivering on the benefits for Diamond Reserve members. But as Hilton’s portfolio and loyalty program continue to expand, there’s significant room for future enhancements — whether that means the chance to earn additional Confirmable Upgrade Rewards or long-awaited tech improvements, like finally being able to redeem Free Night Rewards online.
