Curio Collection by Hilton, also known as Curio Collection, is arguably one of the most important brands in Hilton’s entire portfolio. It holds an essential position as a boutique offering with the robust strengths of the Hilton operating model without coming off as just another chain hotel.

Curio Collection is classified as an upper-upscale Hilton hotel brand, but this is, of course, relative. You’ll often discover that this is just a label — many Curio Collection properties are 5-star luxury hotels!

Each Curio Collection hotel retains its branding and unique themes while being supported by Hilton’s IT system, operations management, and service staff, paving the way for an unapologetically distinctive stay.

Let’s take a deep-dive into what a stay at a Curio Collection hotel looks like.

Everything You Need to Know About Curio Collection by Hilton

Curio Collection by Hilton is officially categorized as an upper-upscale brand, but one might feel that this is selling the brand short, especially when you consider that other brands in the upper-upscale classification include Embassy Suites by Hilton and Hilton Hotels & Resorts.

Let’s be clear — Curio Collection offers some of the best-value luxury boutique hotels in the world. The brand is native to Hilton and was conceptualized and implemented by Hilton in 2014.

As we alluded to above, Curio Collection is Hilton’s first “collection,” which translates to hand-picked boutique hotels that are supported via Hilton’s soft brand skills without compromising on each hotel’s identity.

As boutique hotels gained favor in traveler’s hearts, Curio Collection has similarly grown at a respectable pace. Unlike some other brands that might resemble a “hotel factory,” Curio Collection has expanded at a comfortable pace without compromising its mission of offering one-of-a-kind experiences and local discoveries.

Today, there are nearly 100 Curio Collection properties in almost 30 countries worldwide, which demonstrates its footprint on the global hospitality industry, as well as its position in Hilton’s portfolio.

Generally speaking, its competitors are Marriott’s Autograph Collection and Tribute Collection.

All Curio Collection hotels are 4- to 5-star full-service properties, so you can expect the usual bells and whistles, such as a ridiculously comfortable bed, a spacious room, lots of amenities, and excellent service.

Independent Boutique Feel

One of the selling points of Curio Collection hotels is each property’s individuality.

This means that there’s no standardized lobby layout, room design, or even bath amenities.

You get the best of both worlds — the opportunity to take advantage of worldwide scale, as is the case with the Hilton Honors loyalty program, and at the same time, enjoy a luxurious boutique experience.

Digitally Advanced Rooms

Digitally Advanced Rooms

One of the common themes you’ll find at Curio Collection properties throughout the world is its commitment to technology. Whenever you stay at Curio Collection, digital check-in and smartphone entry via the mobile app are just some of the ways your stay will be seamless.

Also, free and fast Wi-Fi is a given at these hotels, in addition to lots of plug-in hubs within the room for maximum connectivity. In some cases, you’ll even be able to connect your room’s speaker system to your phone for a music studio experience.

Culturally Focused Theme

Curio Collection Culture

The brand’s namesake is derived from “curio,” referring to something of interest, something that’s unique or even rare. Individuality is the common thread with these hotels, and each one focuses on authenticity and remarkable culture.

Some of the world’s most famous Curio Collection hotels are actually important historical buildings. For example, the Reykjavik Konsulat Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton was formerly a historic 1900s department store. It has maintained its eclectic architecture but has also evolved to embody modern Icelandic culture.

The 13 Best Curio Collection by Hilton Redemptions

Curio Collection is just one of Hilton’s upscale brands, and there are many aspirational hotels in its portfolio. It’s easy to find a worthwhile stay using points, and it only gets better if you can also use your Gold or Diamond status to enjoy free breakfast (soon to be a food and beverage credit in the U.S.).

If you’re looking for a guide for the best points deals across the broader Hilton chain of hotels, check out our best ways to redeem Hilton Honors points. The following list of redemptions is solely focused on the best Curio Collection hotel deals using points.

You can also use the Hilton Honors Points Explorer tool to get a better feel of how much award nights will cost — a word of caution, however, is that this tool isn’t always 100% accurate.

Let’s take a look at some of the best ways to redeem points at Curio Collection by Hilton.

1. Kyukaruizawa Kikyo, Curio Collection by Hilton (Karuizawa, Japan)

Kyukaruizawa Kikyo Curio Collection by Hilton

Kyukaruizawa Kikyo is one of the most unknown and exceptional Curio Collection properties in the world. Located a little more than an hour away from Tokyo via bullet train (Shinkansen), Kyukaruizawa Kikyo is a 5-star hotel oasis in a small town called Karuizawa in Nagano Prefecture.

While we wouldn’t recommend visiting on your first trip to Japan, we’d definitely check it out if you’re a repeat traveler to the Land of the Rising Sun. This resort is located in the heart of Karuizawa, just a 6-minute walk from the Karuizawa New Art Museum and a 14-minute walk from Yagasaki Park.

This hotel doesn’t have any single-bed rooms — instead, all rooms contain 2 twin beds, although these are more like double beds in size. Each room has a balcony, a luxurious bathroom, an oversized flat-screen TV, tea facilities, a Nespresso machine, free Wi-Fi, and a separate seating area like a sofa.

On the property grounds, there is a full-service restaurant, a cocktail lounge, an onsen (Japanese public bath), 2 spas, a gym, a chapel, a terrace, and lots of event space. This hotel resembles a luxe Japanese sanctuary set amidst mountain scenery, yet just moments away from Karuizawa’s quaint shops and cafés.

Standard rooms with points are booked under the Twin Superior Room rate from 81,000 Hilton Honors points per night. Cash rates can fluctuate wildly, from $200 to $900 per night, which makes this property an incredible-value Curio Collection hotel!

2. Reykjavik Konsulat Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton (Iceland)

Reykjavik Konsulat Hotel Curio Collection by Hilton
Reykjavik Konsulat Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton. Image Credit: Hilton

Reykjavik Konsulat Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton is a historic arts hotel in the center of Iceland’s capital. And if you’re looking for a polished hotel stay in a traditionally expensive city, you’ve come to the right place. Reykjavik Konsulat Hotel is a 4-star (borderline 5-star) property that gets raving reviews.

And it’s easy to see why — this famed hotel, housed in a former department store, enjoys a fantastic location, upscale lodging, and solid amenities. Each spacious room has free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, minifridge, Nespresso machine, tea facilities, and more.

This contemporary Icelandic boutique hotel offers a sauna, a whirlpool, a gym, room service, a restaurant, and a bar. You’ll also get complimentary continental breakfast at this hotel.

Free nights at the Reykjavik Konsulat Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton will cost from 59,000 Hilton Honors points per night, which will get you booked into the King Classic Room. If you paid cash, you’d spend around $200 to $400 per night in a standard room.

3. The Charter Hotel Seattle, Curio Collection by Hilton (Washington)

The Charter Seattle Curio Collection by Hilton
The Charter Hotel Seattle, Curio Collection by Hilton. Image Credit: Hilton

The Charter Hotel Seattle, Curio Collection by Hilton is one of the most attractive hotels to book in Seattle, a city known for its holistic commitment to ethnic diversity, natural beauty, and trendy culture.

The Charter Hotel Seattle offers the boutique feel of a Curio Collection property with unparalleled convenience via a location just steps away from Pike Place Market. The Charter Hotel Seattle is less than 1 mile from other Seattle attractions like the Space Needle and Pioneer Square!

Each of the rooms starts at 360 square feet large, and they’re one of the few hotels that contain the Waldorf Astoria bed, which elevates the Curio Collection experience even further for maximum relaxation.

You’ll also enjoy premium down bedding, oversized windows, coffee-making and tea facilities, a fully-stocked minibar, plush bathrobes, and towels, as well as a well-appointed bathroom. There’s also a separate workspace if you need it.

The hotel has an Argentinean restaurant, a rooftop bar, meeting rooms, a ballroom, and a gym for your convenience. You’ll probably be spending a big chunk of your time exploring Seattle, but these are undoubtedly nice amenities to have!

You can book rooms in this hotel from 56,000 Hilton Honors points per night, depending on your exact stay dates. But when you redeem points for a standard room reward, you’ll book the 2 Queen Beds or 1 King Bed rate. Cash rates are anywhere from $150 to $400 per night.

4. Cliffrose Springdale, Curio Collection by Hilton (Springdale, Utah)

Cliffrose Springdale Curio Collection by Hilton

Cliffrose Springdale, Curio Collection by Hilton is an underrated hotel that flies under the radar. Oddly enough, it’s categorized as a 3-star hotel according to Google, but the truth is that this hotel is an upscale 4-star hotel.

Cliffrose Springdale is conveniently located as a stop on the Springdale shuttle and is only a 9-minute walk from the Zion Canyon Visitor Center! This hotel is an excellent resting point for visiting Zion Canyon in Utah.

Located at the front of the Virgin River, this lodge and spa experience offers breathtaking canyon views and a peaceful sanctuary. This suite hotel offers contemporary rooms, each with an incredible view, private balcony or patio, microwave, minifridge, flat-screen HDTV, coffee facilities, free Wi-Fi, separate workspace, and more.

The hotel grounds are housed on 5 landscaped acres and contain a heated outdoor pool, a waterfall hot tub, fire pits and gardens, event space, free parking, and an alfresco restaurant featuring locally-sourced ingredients.

Award stays in standard rooms cost from 36,000 Hilton Honors points per night here, meaning you can get rooms for a steal if you manage to find availability at the lowest level. If you’re looking for standard award rates, you’ll want to look for the Canyon View 2 Queen room rate. You can also book the Canyon View King for 3,000 to 5,000 more points per night.

Room rates paid for in cash range from $200 to $700 per night and average at around $350 per night.

5. SAii Lagoon Maldives, Curio Collection by Hilton

SAii Lagoon Maldives Curio Collection by Hilton
SAii Lagoon Maldives, Curio Collection by Hilton. Image Credit: Hilton

One of the most uniquely positioned properties in the entire Curio Collection by Hilton portfolio isn’t exactly the traditional Curio property — it’s a coastal paradise retreat in the Maldives.

SAii Lagoon Maldives, Curio Collection is located in the Maldives at the South Malé Atoll (specifically in the Emboodhoo Lagoon). Why is that important? Because this property doesn’t require a seaplane transfer to access it. Instead, you can take a quick 15-minute speedboat ride directly from the international airport! Say bye-bye to $500 to $800 seaplane tickets per person and hello to $150 speedboat transfers!

This brand-new resort opened in late 2019, and it features around 200 rooms — brightly furnished, colorful, and oh-so-boutique. All of the rooms at this property have a deck and balcony with sea views. Plus, you have standard amenities like free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, minibar, tea and coffee maker, safe, and more.

The hotel has 3 restaurants, a cafe, a gym, an outdoor infinity pool with sea views, and a host of activities available, like diving, fishing, kayaking, and snorkeling.

SAii Lagoon Maldives is one of the most aspirational Curio Collection properties, not necessarily because of its 5-star service and amenities, but because it serves a niche: those who are tight on Hilton Honors points and want to stay in the Maldives for free and care less about food and opulence.

And if you stay here, you’ll also save a bunch of cash and time because you won’t have to pay for a pesky seaplane. You can redeem anywhere from 85,000 Hilton Honors points per night. You’ll most likely be booked into the King Sky Room or Twin Sky Room.

Prices range from $150 to $300.

6. The Britannique Naples, Curio Collection by Hilton (Italy)

The Britannique Naples Curio Collection by Hilton
The Britannique Naples, Curio Collection by Hilton. Image Credit: Hilton

The Britannique Naples, Curio Collection by Hilton is a new villa hotel smack in the middle of Naples, Italy. The property itself is a 19th-century villa that has been renovated and repurposed as a boutique 5-star hotel. Just a 6-minute walk from Amedeo metro station and a little more than a mile from the Royal Palace of Caserta, this hotel is an excellent choice to use your Hilton Honors points on.

Britannique Hotel Naples is tucked along the northern coast of Naples Bay and boasts magnificent views from every angle. The rooms are ornately decorated with lots of color and open-air themes. Plus, each room has plush bedding, free Wi-Fi, coffee and tea facilities, as well as a minibar and a flat-screen TV.

Savor a bountiful breakfast at Le Pavillon or a luxurious Mediterranean dinner spread at Macphersons. Alternatively, you can munch on some snacks at Niq Bar, get a workout in at the gym, or enjoy the solarium, spa, cigar room, and outdoor terrace.

If you’re booking with points, you’ll redeem anywhere from 68,000 Hilton Honors points per night, most likely in the King Guest Room. Rooms can cost anywhere from $150 to $600 per night, depending on seasonality. On average, however, standard room rates will cost around $250 per night.

7. Aleph Rome Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton (Italy)

Aleph Rome Hotel Curio Collection by Hilton
Aleph Rome Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton. Image Credit: Hilton

Aleph Rome Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton is Hilton’s best city hotel in Rome. Although the Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel is arguably the more luxurious property, it’s more of a resort than a city hotel — that is to say, it doesn’t offer the most central location out there.
