Raise your hand if you want a shortcut to elite status. Keep your hand up if you want that elite status to last for 2 years.

That’s what we thought.

Hilton has brought back its fantastic shortcut to elite status, offering a status challenge that can give you top-tier Diamond status. As AwardWallet first reported, the timeline is even longer than normal.

How the Hilton Honors Status Match Works

The Hilton Honors status match offer lets you start with Hilton Honors Gold status for a 90-day trial period. If you complete the required number of paid stays during that window, you can extend Gold status — or even upgrade to top-tier Diamond statusthrough March 31, 2027.

Here’s how it works:

  • Match to Gold: Upon approval for the status match program, you’ll get Gold status immediately. Then, stay 8 nights within 90 days to keep Gold status through March 31, 2027.
  • Upgrade to Diamond: Stay 14 nights within 90 days to upgrade to Diamond status through March 31, 2027.

How To Apply

You must be a Hilton Honors member and have elite status with another hotel rewards program. If you aren’t a member of Hilton Honors, you’ll need to sign up first.

Then, head to the status challenge page and submit your application, including proof of elite status and a recent stay with another hotel rewards program. Note that you aren’t eligible if you’ve previously done a status challenge with Hilton.

Hilton typically processes status match requests within 7 to 12 business days, but you may be asked for additional documents. Keep this timeline in mind to ensure your status challenge is active before any upcoming stays.

Key Terms

  • Only elite status levels listed in Hilton’s dropdown menu are eligible for a match. If your program isn’t listed, you may not qualify.
  • You must complete paid stays to extend your status. Award stays don’t count.
  • You can only participate in a Hilton status match once per lifetime. If you’ve done this before, you won’t be able to do it again.

Benefits of Hilton Honors Elite Status

Hilton Honors Gold status is one of the most valuable mid-tier hotel status tiers, offering perks like:

  • Complimentary breakfast or food and beverage credits
  • 80% bonus points on Hilton stays
  • Room upgrades (when available)

Diamond status confers even more perks:

  • 100% bonus points on stays
  • Executive Lounge access, where available
  • Higher priority for space-available upgrades, including upgrades to suites.
  • For frequent Hilton guests, Diamond status can make a big difference — especially at properties with Executive Lounges, where you’ll get free snacks and drinks throughout the day.

Other Ways To Get Hilton Elite Status

If you don’t qualify for the status match or don’t want to complete the required stays, there’s an even easier way to secure Hilton elite status: credit cards. There are 2 Hilton co-branded credit cards from American Express that offer automatic Hilton Honors Gold status:

You also can enroll for complimentary Hilton Honors Gold status with The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express.

If you want Diamond status, you can get it automatically with the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card*. If you stay at Hilton properties regularly, getting status via a credit card can be a simple, cost-effective alternative to completing a status match challenge.

Final Thoughts

Hilton’s latest status match promotion offers an easy way to secure Gold or Diamond status for nearly 2 years, provided you can complete the required stays. For travelers with upcoming Hilton bookings, this could be a great way to maximize your experience with valuable elite perks.

However, if you’re not eligible for the match — or don’t want to commit to 8 to 14 nights of paid stays within 90 days — Hilton’s co-branded credit cards offer another straightforward path to Gold or Diamond status. Either way, if you’re looking to elevate your Hilton stays, now’s a great time to take advantage of this opportunity.
