Hotel News

New Orleans’ Eliza Jane Leaving Hyatt for Marriott

The Category 5 Eliza Jane in New Orleans is leaving World of Hyatt on March 24, as flagged by You Are Travel. It will join Marriott Bonvoy as The Eliza Jane, Autograph Collection. Marriott will manage the property as of March 25, but it’s unclear how much it will cost with points.

Barcelona Doubles Hotel Tourist Tax

Barcelona is looking to reduce tourism and is taking drastic measures to do so. The regional parliament of Catalonia approved a tourist tax of more than $17, one of the highest in Europe.

Depending on hotel category, guests can expect to pay between $11.58 and $17.38 per night starting in April.

Marriott’s D.C. Hotels Roll Out Cherry Blossom Festival Packages

Washington, D.C., is home to the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which takes place between March 20 and April 12, 2026. Marriott (a host sponsor of the festival) has cherry blossom-inspired offerings and culinary experiences.

But that’s not all. The chain is offering an exclusive discount for Marriott Bonvoy members for seats at the festival parade. U.S. Marriott Bonvoy members who have opted in to emails will receive an email by March 11 with a discount code and a link to tickets.

Marriott Bonvoy members can also earn 2,500 bonus points per 2-night stay at the 40 participating hotels.

Final Thoughts

It was another busy week in the hotel industry, with luxury hotels either opening or being announced worldwide. This week also saw news of a Hyatt hotel in New Orleans reflagging as a Marriott and a higher tourist tax coming to Barcelona.

We’ll be back here next week with more news from across the hotel industry.
