Most award travelers can agree that World of Hyatt has one of the best hotel loyalty programs out there, as it’s the lone major chain to still publish an award chart.

However, one pain point is that it takes several extra steps to find out a hotel’s category—the indicator of how many points are needed for redemption. After all, Hyatt prices out hotels on its chart from Category 1 to 8 and on off-peak, standard, and peak rates.

Now, World of Hyatt has made a minor yet positive change that allows members to easily see the exact award category it belongs to. Here’s what you should know!

How To See Award Category on Hyatt Hotels

The update is already live when searching for award nights as you usually would on Hyatt’s website.

As you can see, you can now search any destination and see the exact category for every property in the portfolio. This new category tag is found right next to the star rating of the hotel.

Prior to this update, you would have to visit the individual hotel’s website. Then, you would find the category hidden in small font under the booking details, which added a few annoying extra steps to the search process.

Why This New Hyatt Category Feature Is Helpful

This seemingly minor update is great news for award travelers for many reasons. First, World of Hyatt offers a few types of free night certificates.

There are a lot of sweet spots in the Category 1-4 certificate in particular, so knowing which category a hotel belongs to can help travelers maximize this lucrative reward.

Finally, this is exciting news for award travelers because World of Hyatt makes annual category changes to its properties every March. Some hotels go up (or down) in a category depending on demand, so it can be hard to keep up with these ever-changing levels.

Hot Tip:

You can earn a Category 1-4 certificate after every cardmember anniversary and by spending $15,000 in a year on The World of Hyatt Credit Card. In addition, staying at 5 different Hyatt brands as part of Brand Explorer will get you another Category 1-4 free night award.

Final Thoughts

We’re happy to see this new update that will help travelers redeem World of Hyatt points for their next hotel night. Down the road, it will be great to see if Hyatt adds the ability to see if a hotel is actually available on points for your given travel dates directly on the search results.
