IHG announced today, September 26, that it plans to open the first Garner hotel in Türkiye, near Istanbul Airport (IST), in 2025.

Let’s take a look at this news.

Garner Expands to Türkiye

IHG has inked a deal for the 126-room Garner hotel near Istanbul’s new airport, which is scheduled to open in 2025. The hotel chain is keeping pretty mum about the property. However, we know it will be made up of 4 separate buildings and will offer amenities like the 24/7 Garner Shop and complimentary breakfast.

The hotel will likely be a boon for travelers staying close to Istanbul Airport, which is now the world’s seventh-busiest, serving more than 64 million passengers annually.

If you aren’t familiar with it, IHG’s Garner brand launched earlier this year. A true midscale brand, it strives to offer a comfortable stay at an inexpensive price and offers amenities like complimentary breakfast. The brand initially launched in the U.S. and has expanded to 4 open hotels and 79 in the pipeline. Currently, you can find Garner properties in Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Washington state.

Other Airport Hotels at IST

The new Garner hotel will join just a few other points hotels near Istanbul Airport, though it will probably be the nicest.

Generally, airport hotels can be hit or miss. They can be a solid crashpad for travelers with short connections or for those with longer connections who want a cheap hotel but don’t need to be in the center of the action.

This is particularly true for points hotels at IST. The airport is a considerable distance from Istanbul proper — 1 hour and 45 minutes by transit or an hour by car — so it probably won’t be the best option for travelers planning to explore the city for a few days.

Still, any points hotel is good news, as Istanbul Airport only has a handful.

Other points options nearby include the Hampton by Hilton Istanbul Arnavutkoy, 2 Trademark Collection by Wyndham Hotels, a Ramada, and a Park Inn. This will be the first IHG hotel in the area, giving you the ability to earn and redeem points, but it won’t be the last. IHG says the Holiday Inn Express Istanbul Airport Arnavutkoy District will open next year.

Final Thoughts

Right now, IHG’s Garner brand only has a footprint in the U.S., but that will change when the new hotel in Türkiye opens next year. Istanbul Airport is an interesting location, but we have to imagine IHG was enticed by the new airport, so in a way, it makes sense. We’re keeping our eyes on this brand and look forward to updating you on its progression.
