The carrier has made big moves lately to shore up its customer base in the state — especially around Chicago — so this surprise move isn’t much of a shock. The surprising part is that you don’t need to travel to get your free miles and Loyalty Points toward elite status.

Illinois residents can claim free miles and Loyalty Points from American Airlines. To find this promotion, log in to your AAdvantage account and click on the “Promotions and offers” tab on the left side.

This offer is only available for those with an Illinois address in their AAdvantage account. For anyone else, it won’t show up in the promotions area.

The offer is for 1,000 bonus AAdvantage miles and 1,000 Loyalty Points — the metric used for earning AAdvantage elite status.

If you have the offer, you’ll need to enroll in it by April 30, 2026. The miles and Loyalty Points won’t be given to you if you don’t.

Is It Worth It?

Free is free. Clicking a button to get something is as easy as it gets. Normally, airline promotions require some type of travel or spending — often both.
