Back in April, JetBlue and Japan Airlines (JAL) announced a new partnership that allowed members to book award flights from program A to fly on airline B. Now, that partnership is coming to an end.

Both airlines have posted a notice on their partnership pages stating that the arrangement will end on March 31, 2026.

Here’s a look at what’s changing and the timeline of changes to help you take action before you lose the opportunity to make these redemptions.

Recap of the JetBlue-JAL Partnership

The JetBlue and Japan Airlines partnership launched on April 23, 2025. With an end date of March 31, 2026, the partnership will end less than a year from its launch.

Under this partnership, Japan Airlines (JAL) and JetBlue flights became available for partner award bookings. That means TrueBlue members can use their points to book JAL flights, and Mileage Bank members can use their miles to book JetBlue flights — and still can until the partnership ends.

Award pricing under this partnership was attractive for those redeeming TrueBlue points. Members could use 30,000 points to fly between Hawaii and Japan in economy class or 55,000 points to fly in business class. From the East Coast to Japan, those numbers jumped to 39,900 and 79,900, respectively.

Japan Airlines’ partnership page and JetBlue’s partnership page announced on December 26 that this partnership will end on March 31, 2026.

According to the notices, new bookings — including award redemptions — will be possible through March 31, 2026. Tickets flown after April 1 will still be valid, even though new redemptions will no longer be accepted.

Luckily, it will still be possible to cancel or change these tickets, even for flights on or after April 1, as long as your ticket remains valid. This should be possible online, but be prepared for a phone call to manage these reservations after the breakup date.

Hot Tip:

Even though this partnership is ending, there are still multiple ways to book Japan Airlines business class using points and miles.

Final Thoughts

Without giving a reason, Japan Airlines and JetBlue have announced an end date for their partnership. Through March 31, 2026, it’s still possible to book partner award flights using points and miles, and the silver lining (other than the fact we got advance notice) is that you should still be able to make modifications to your itinerary after April 1, even though the partnership will no longer exist at that point.
