Marriott is bringing the ultra-luxe JW Marriott brand to a popular island in Greece.

Here’s everything you need to know about this new resort.

First JW Marriott Hotel in Greece

JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa will have 160 guest rooms, suites, and villas. All suites and villas will offer either a private pool or a jacuzzi.

The hotel is expected to span 100 acres and include 5 dining options, multiple pools, a fitness center, a beach club, a spa and Family by JW experiences.

This is the debut of the JW Marriott brand in Greece. The brand is a nod to Marriott’s founder, J. Willard “J.W.” Marriott, who cared deeply about his own well-being. Today, the JW Marriott brand focuses on guests’ well-being, offering high-end amenities, spas, and fine dining.

“Greece remains as one of the most attractive destinations for today’s global traveler, and the signing of JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa reflects the continued demand we are seeing for luxury accommodation across the country,” says Jerome Briet, Chief Development Officer, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Marriott International.

Marriott says the resort is anticipated to open in 2025. However, the hotel chain didn’t mention an exact opening date. It’s also unclear — at least at the moment — how many Marriott Bonvoy points will be required for a stay.

Booking Marriott Hotels in Greece

Marriott has an impressive portfolio in Greece, with nearly 3 dozen hotels spanning several brands.

These include high-end options like the Mystique Hotel in Santorini, a Luxury Collection Hotel. While cash rates can start at nearly $1,200 per night, award stays start at just 110,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

While that may seem steep, remember that Santorini remains 1 of the most-visited islands in the world.

Earning Marriott Bonvoy points is extremely easy. You can transfer American Express Membership Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Marriott at a 1:1 ratio or open 1 of the best Marriott Bonvoy credit cards. These cards come with sizable welcome bonus offers and some form of Marriott Bonvoy elite status.

Hot Tip:

Like many major hotel chains, Marriott ditched its award chart a few years ago. Instead, Marriott uses dynamic pricing, which means award prices can depend on various factors.

Final Thoughts

The JW Marriott in Crete will join an impressive list of Marriott hotels on the island, including Design Hotel and Autograph Collection brands. It will offer amenities island-hopping travelers will appreciate, from swimming pools to a spa. While we await the hotel’s opening next year, you can always take a look at Marriott’s other luxury resorts in Greece!
