Good news for kids (and their parents) flying on United … kid’s meals are coming back!

Just in time for the busy holiday travel season, little travelers can enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner from a menu catered to their taste buds.

Let’s take a look at the news and which flights you can expect to find these meals…

United Brings Back Kids’ Meals Onboard

United has announced the return of kid-friendly breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals onboard flights longer than 2,000 miles in cabins where complimentary meal service is already offered.

“We’re committed to providing a great onboard experience for all of our customers, and we’re thrilled to be able to offer our youngest flyers new, kid-friendly food options on select routes,” said Aaron McMillan, United’s managing director of hospitality and planning. “We know there’s a lot to balance when traveling as a family – especially during the busy holiday season – and hope this helps to put parents’ minds at ease as they prepare for travel with us.”

Starting in 2023, kid’s meals will also be available for preorder before select United flights, so younger travelers can be sure they will get the meal they want to enjoy on their flight.

Meals on planes can be hit or miss, even if you aren’t a picky eater. So having a menu just for kids is a way to make sure the little ones get some food in them on a long flight. Nobody wants a hangry kid next to them!

Here is what you can expect for a kid’s meal on your next flight:

Domestic Flights (Including Hawaii) and International Flights Departing the U.S.

  • Breakfast: French toast with sausage, fruit, and a croissant
  • Lunch and Dinner: Chicken tenders with fruit, a dinner roll, and dessert

International Flights Returning to the U.S.

  • Breakfast: French toast with sausage, fruit, and a croissant
  • Lunch and Dinner: Grilled cheese sandwich with fruit, a dinner roll, and dessert

To request a kids’ meal, customers can select the Children’s Special Meals option when booking a flight or add a request to an existing reservation using the United mobile app.

Final Thoughts

Having a special kids’ menu is always nice to have when traveling with little ones.

While the menu is not very inspiring (a grilled cheese sandwich on international flights, for example), it may be a good option for some families. However, if you know that nothing on the kids’ menu will be a big hit with your little one, it may be worth rolling the dice with whatever meal is being served to the rest of the cabin.

If you are flying first class or Polaris seats, sticking with the standard menu might be a good idea…unless you can guarantee some chicken fingers!
