The news caught travelers by surprise, with travelers taking to platforms such as Reddit and X to express their frustration. Travelers were given less than a day to arrange for new accommodations, resulting in high costs and limited availability.

Marriott said guests with Sonder reservations should contact their credit card company to request a refund if they booked through its platform. Customers who booked through online travel agencies (OTA) should contact their respective booking agency.
