The largest airline in South America is increasing its extensive U.S. route network.

The Santiago-headquartered carrier will reinstate its previously axed route from Miami (MIA) to Buenos Aires (EZE) and launch an all-new service from New York’s JFK to Guayquil, Ecuador (GYE) from December 1, 2025.

Here are the details.

LATAM’s New Routes From Miami and New York

Miami to Buenos Aires

LATAM’s reinstated nonstop service to Buenos Aires will operate daily. The airline will deploy its fleet of Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft on this route.

The smaller 787-8 variant of these jets is currently going through a multi-million dollar retrofit project, so it’s unclear exactly which business class configuration passengers can expect on this route.

Despite being the capital of Argentina and the country’s busiest airport, Ezeiza International Airport (EZE) has the fewest LATAM flights of its soon-to-be 7 destinations in South America served from Miami (MIA).

This will result in the airline relying heavily on point-to-point flights from Miami to Buenos Aires. LATAM could encounter trouble filling its planes as the route is already served by several daily flights operated by American Airlines and Aerolineas Argentinas — the country’s flag carrier.

Hot Tip:

Even if you’re not a frequent flyer of the airline, you can still enjoy perks and benefits on your trip thanks to these LATAM credit cards available to U.S. citizens.

New York to Guayaquil

LATAM’s new service from JFK to Ecuador’s most populous city, Guayaquil, will also operate daily.

This time, LATAM will deploy its fleet of narrow-body Airbus A320 aircraft. These smaller jets are mostly used on short-haul routes within South America and flights between Miami and northern South America.

These jets don’t have lie-flat seats in business class. In fact, the business class equivalent is more of a premium economy that features regular economy seats and a blocked middle seat — similar to what you’ll find in Europe.

From Guayaquil, LATAM only offers 5 connection possibilities for passengers arriving from New York. However, 2 of these are to airports in the Galapagos. This will facilitate travel for those wishing to visit the islands from New York. Avianca and JetBlue also operate nonstop services between JFK and Guayaquil.

Final Thoughts

With such a huge South American diaspora living in Miami and New York, it’s no wonder LATAM is keen to increase connectivity between the 2 continents.

LATAM’s new routes starting in December should mean more travel opportunities for those wishing to travel between the U.S. and South America.
