Marriott International announced this week that it intends to bring an EDITION hotel to Lake Como in northern Italy.

“We are excited to work with Bain Capital Credit and Omnam Group to introduce the EDITION Hotels brand to one of Italy’s most beautiful destinations,” said Josh Fluhr, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, EDITION Hotels, Marriott International.

Let’s take a look at everything we know so far about this exciting new property in one of the world’s most picturesque — and popular — travel destinations.

The Lake Como EDITION

Expected to open in 2025, The Lake Como EDITION will boast 145 guest rooms including 2 penthouse suites, a “floating pool,” and, of course, the brand’s signature high-style public spaces, including a lobby bar and other food and beverage outlets that will overlook the lake and provide stunning vistas.

The hotel, formerly the Britannia Excelsior Hotel, is located in a building dating back to the 19th century on the western shore of the lake that will bring “new life to Lake Como while honoring the intimate history of the building and its rich heritage,” according to a press release.

Not far from Milan, Italy, Lake Como has been a bucket-list destination for many thanks to its natural beauty, glamorous lifestyle, celebrity appeal (looking at you, Mr. and Mrs. Clooney), and celebration of life on the water in perhaps the most elegant way possible.

While there are a few points hotels in the area, there aren’t many, and they certainly aren’t of the caliber of an EDITION property, whose see-and-be-seen vibe seems like a tailor-made fit for the locale.

We don’t yet know how much this new EDITION property will cost — in either cash or Marriott Bonvoy points — but we have reason to believe it won’t come cheap, judging from some of the other high-end hotels in the area.

However, as part of the Marriott family, this property will participate in the Marriott Bonvoy program, which means members will be able to earn and redeem Marriott Bonvoy points at this property.

Expanding EDITION

The EDITION brand has been on a steady path of expansion. There are now 15 properties open in locations around the world, including Abu Dhabi, Barcelona, London, Miami Beach, New York, Reykjavik, Shanghai, Tokyo, West Hollywood, and more.

The brand’s latest opening is The Tampa EDITION in Florida, which is currently in a soft-opening phase. That property is expected to fully open next month.

Hot Tip: Marriott’s also expanding its luxury footprint in the Asia-Pacific region, expecting to open a total of 14 properties there, including 2 EDITION hotels: The Tokyo EDITION, Ginza and The Singapore EDITION.

Final Thoughts

We don’t have a whole lot of information surrounding The Lake Como EDITION just yet, but we expect that to change in the coming months.

Regardless, we’re excited that points travelers will soon have a high-end option in one of the world’s most beautiful spots at which to redeem points.

We can’t wait to see what the finished product looks like, and rest assured that we’ll be doing our best to get there as soon as the property opens so we can give it a full review!
