For years, I consistently earned Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status through frequent work and leisure travel. I chose Marriott for the vast majority of my stays because the chain has strong coverage in the place I travel most, and I’m a fan of several of its brands.

I’ve found Platinum status to be the sweet spot, as it’s the first tier where truly meaningful elite perks come into play. I’ve traveled a bit less recently, so I haven’t met the 50-night threshold required to requalify. That means I’m missing out on my most valued hotel elite perk: complimentary breakfast.

However, I realized I have a realistic path back to Platinum status this year thanks to a well-timed Marriott Bonvoy promotion and a flurry of travel over the next few months. Here’s a look at the details of this promotion, how it helps me close the gap to Platinum, and why I believe Platinum status is worth pursuing.

Marriott’s Limited-Time Elite Night and Bonus Points Promotion

Marriott Bonvoy is offering 2,500 bonus points per stay, plus 1 bonus elite night credit for each different Marriott Bonvoy brand stayed at during the promotional period.

Registration must be completed by April 26, 2026, and eligible travel runs from February 25 through May 10, 2026. There’s no limit to the number of bonus points or bonus elite night credits you can earn. However, stays must be paid — award nights don’t qualify for this promotion.

Stays at several Marriott brands aren’t eligible for this promotion, including Bulgari Hotels, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Marriott Executive Apartments, owner-occupied weeks at Marriott Vacation Club, Grand Residences by Marriott, Marriott Grand Residence Club, Sheraton Vacation Club, Westin Vacation Club, The Ritz-Carlton Club, The St. Regis Residence Club, and The Luxury Collection Residence Club.

How This Promotion Gets Me Closer to Marriott Platinum Status

Usually, I wouldn’t think too much about a promotion like this. I’d register just in case and happily earn a small bonus if my stay qualified. But I have a flurry of travel in April, which aligns perfectly with the promotional window.

Currently, I have 17 elite nights toward my status, 15 of which came from the automatic elite night credits I received from holding The Ritz-Carlton™ Credit Card (no longer open to new applicants), and 2 from actual stays.

That leaves me 33 elite nights short of Platinum status. Thanks to this promotion, my upcoming Marriott stays can meaningfully close that gap.

I had a general idea of where I wanted to stay for my upcoming trips, but after learning about the promotion, I decided to stick with Marriott exclusively. I also selected different brands for each stay to ensure I earned the extra elite-night credit per brand — not a difficult task, considering Marriott has 41 brands.

Here’s how that math works out.

1 Night in Chicago

I’m moving into a new apartment on April 1, but my current lease ends on March 31, so I’ll have 1 night without a place to stay. Originally, I planned to crash on a friend’s couch. After seeing this promotion, I changed my mind. I booked a night at the citizenM Chicago Downtown, which will earn:

  • 2,500 bonus points
  • 1 elite night credit plus 1 bonus elite night credit, for a total of 2 elite night credits

2 Nights in Paris

Shortly after my move, I’m heading to Europe with my brother to attend a couple of professional tennis tournaments that we’ve long had on our bucket list. The first takes place in the South of France, but my brother hasn’t been to Paris yet, so we decided to spend a few days there before heading to Nice (NCE).

I booked the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe Hotel, and because this is a different brand, I’ll earn:

  • 2,500 bonus points
  • 2 elite night credits plus 1 bonus elite night credit, for a total of 3 elite night credits

2 Nights in Cannes

Next, we’re staying at the JW Marriott Cannes, the third different brand for this promotion. For those 2 nights, I’ll earn:

  • 2,500 bonus points
  • 2 elite night credits plus 1 bonus elite night credit, for a total of 3 elite night credits

2 Nights in Barcelona

After France, we’re heading to Barcelona for 2 nights at The Barcelona EDITION, the fourth distinct brand. From this stay, I’ll earn:

  • 2,500 bonus points
  • 2 elite night credits plus 1 bonus elite night credit, for a total of 3 elite night credits

2 Nights in Madrid

Our final stop is Madrid, where we’ll stay 2 nights at the AC Hotel Recoletos. From this stay, I’ll earn:

  • 2,500 bonus points
  • 2 elite night credits plus 1 bonus elite night credit, for a total of 3 elite night credits

4 Nights in San Juan

Just days after returning from Europe, I’m heading to San Juan, Puerto Rico, for my cousin’s bachelor party. I booked a 4-night stay at La Concha Resort, Autograph Collection, under my account. Even though I’m sharing the room, I’ll earn the following rewards:

  • 2,500 bonus points
  • 4 elite night credits plus 1 bonus elite night credit, for a total of 5 elite night credits
La Concha San Juan
La Concha is an iconic resort in San Juan’s Condado neighborhood.

By the end of the promotion, I’ll have earned a total of 15,000 bonus points — on top of my normal earnings from each stay — and 19 elite night credits.

That will bring my total to 36 elite nights, just 14 nights away from reaching Platinum status. While the promotion itself won’t get me all the way there, I have several trips planned later this year that should push me across the finish line. Without the bonus elite night credits, the gap would have felt much harder to close.

Why Marriott Platinum Elite Status Is Worth It

Why pursue Platinum status at all? For me, it comes down to 2 standout benefits: the welcome gift (often a complimentary breakfast or a food-and-beverage credit) and annual Choice Benefits.

One of my favorite parts of staying at a hotel is enjoying breakfast each morning. Unfortunately, not every Marriott Bonvoy brand offers complimentary breakfast. These include The Ritz-Carlton, Design Hotels, EDITION, Marriott Grand Residence Club, and Marriott Vacation Club properties.

However, most other brands do offer it, and that can translate into meaningful savings. It’s not unusual to spend upwards of $50 per person on breakfast alone, especially at full-service properties.

JW Marriott Dubai Breakfast
A complimentary hotel breakfast can be a huge money-saver.

The other benefit I value highly is Choice Benefits. After reaching 50 nights in a calendar year, Platinum members can select 1 Choice Benefit from the following list:

  • 5 Nightly Upgrade Awards
  • $1,000 off a bed from a Marriott retail brand
  • Gift Silver Elite status to a family member or friend
  • $100 charity donation
  • 5 Elite Night Credits

I typically choose the 5 Nightly Upgrade Awards, especially for resort stays where a suite upgrade can significantly enhance the experience.

Hot Tip:

Of course, Platinum status also comes with benefits like room upgrades (including suites, when available), late checkout, bonus earning rates, and more. Learn more in our full guide, which covers how to earn Platinum status and whether it’s worth it.

Other Ways To Earn Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite Status

Earning Platinum Elite status typically requires 50 elite night credits annually. But there’s a shortcut.

If you are approved for the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card, you’ll receive automatic Platinum status just for having the card. That said, even cardholders must still earn 50 elite night credits to unlock Choice Benefits.

Marriott Bonvoy

If you don’t feel like splurging for the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card with its $650 annual fee (rates & fees), several other Marriott co-branded cards offer 15 elite night credits annually, including:

The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card awards 25 elite night credits annually, which could help propel you toward even higher levels of status, such as Titanium Elite.

Final Thoughts

I wasn’t necessarily planning to chase Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status this year, but this new promotion made me reconsider.

With a busy April travel schedule that fits perfectly within the promotional window, it makes sense to optimize my stays and close the gap to Platinum. The promotion alone won’t get me there — but it brings me closer than I otherwise would be. And I’m already getting excited for my complimentary breakfast!
