Scandinavian low-cost airline Norse Atlantic is reducing its route network to just 1 transatlantic service. As of October 25, 2026, the airline will no longer connect New York (JFK) with London Gatwick (LGW) and Rome (FCO).

Let’s take a look at the details.

Norse Atlantic Will Only Fly 1 U.S. Route Soon

Norse’s latest route network adjustment, as first reported by AeroRoutes, is more significant than the loss of just 2 routes to New York (JFK). It means the carrier will soon have barely any presence in the U.S. after gradually winding down most of its routes, including all services from Los Angeles (LAX) back in April.

The remaining U.S. route connects Orlando (MCO) with London Gatwick, and that route exists primarily to transport London-based theme-park vacationers rather than U.K.-bound U.S. travelers.

According to the airline’s route map (which it has yet to update), it will now focus almost solely on connecting cities in Norway, Sweden, and the U.K. with the popular leisure destinations of Bangkok (BKK), Cape Town (CPT), and Phuket (HKT).

The shift is likely because Norse was unable to offer a truly low-cost option, despite fares that are regularly more than $100 cheaper than those offered by legacy carriers like British Airways, JetBlue, and Virgin Atlantic.

By the time would-be Norse passengers added extras like baggage and seat selection, these low fares would be about the same as legacy carriers. When considering these airlines, which often also offer complimentary meals, more flexible baggage allowances, and loyalty program perks, Norse quickly loses its appeal.

What Does This Mean for Low-Cost Transatlantic Fares?

Whether it’s been via a connection in Iceland or nonstop, failed airline after failed airline has shown that successfully operating low-cost transatlantic flights is almost impossible. Unlike Norwegian, Play, WOW, and others, Norse hasn’t gone bust. Instead, it’s pivoting to routes where it can truly undercut legacy carriers on leisure-heavy routes.

However, low-cost transatlantic flying isn’t doomed. French low-cost long-haul carrier French Bee has consistently served several U.S. cities to Paris (ORY) for over 8 years. Its saving grace is likely owing to fewer competitors and fewer daily flights on each of its U.S. routes.

Final Thoughts

Thanks to relatively well-priced economy fares from the U.S. to Europe, Norse’s exit from the market shouldn’t have much impact on travelers’ wallets. It’s anyone’s guess at this point whether we’ll see another startup low-cost carrier try to crack the code in this market — but we won’t be holding our breath.
