Philippine Airlines recently requested permission from the Department of Transportation (DOT) to begin a route from its Manila (MNL) hub to Chicago (ORD) — and wanted to start flying it as quickly as possible.

Those new flights are approved, and they’re now on sale. However, the speed has been tempered a bit, with flights beginning near the end of 2026, rather than sometime in spring as originally hoped.

Here’s a closer look at the flight route, times, schedules, and costs.

Philippine Airlines Selling Flights From Chicago to Manila

Despite how well connected the U.S. is to Asia, nonstop flights to the Philippines are few and far between.

Aside from United‘s single daily nonstop flight from San Francisco (SFO) to Manila (MNL), Philippine Airlines is the only other airline connecting the 2 countries.

Now, the Philippine flag carrier has received authorization to start the route, and tickets are on sale from November 9, 2026.

Chicago flights got the green light thanks to an agreement in place between the U.S. and the Philippines that includes an option for the carrier to fly to 4 more U.S. airports.

With this approval, Chicago (ORD) joins Guam (GUM), Honolulu (HNL), Los Angeles (LAX), New York (JFK), Saipan (SPN), San Francisco (SFO), and Seattle (SEA) as the airline’s eighth in the U.S. and its territories.

At 8,520 miles, Chicago marks the carrier’s second-longest U.S. route after its nonstop to JFK. The schedule operates as follows:

Philippine Airlines’ U.S. expansion comes on the back of the delivery of a 9-aircraft fleet of brand-new Airbus A350-1000s, which it will use on the Chicago service. These planes have 295 seats: 30 in business, 24 in premium economy, and 241 in economy.

Price of Chicago-Manila Flights

One-way flights from Chicago to Manila during the first few weeks of the new route start at $752.50 for economy, $1,539.50 for premium, and $3,913.50 for business. You can find round-trip bookings starting at $1,151.03 in economy.

While more nonstop connectivity to the Philippines is excellent news, Philippine Airlines isn’t part of any airline alliance, which makes earning miles and enjoying reciprocal elite benefits from your preferred U.S. carrier a little more complex.

However, you can still use points to book Philippine Airlines flights via the frequent flyer programs of American Airlines, ANA, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, and Singapore Airlines.

Hot Tip:

At the end of last year, Philippine Airlines surprised us all by announcing an interline partnership with Southwest. This means you can book a domestic flight with Southwest and connect to a Philippine Airlines flight to Manila on a single ticket.

Final Thoughts

Heading to the Philippines from the Midwest this year is becoming much easier with Philippine Airlines’ new, nonstop route out of Chicago. Flights will operate 3x weekly, starting November 9, and they’re now on sale.
