Canadian operator Porter Airlines is adding a nonstop route between Newark (EWR) and Montréal (YUL) as of June 1, 2025. The flight will initially operate once daily before increasing to 2x daily for the peak summer season.

Let’s take a look at this new, exciting route connecting Montréal and the New York area.

Daily Montréal-Newark Service Begins June 1, 2025

Porter will fly the De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft between Newark (EWR) and Montréal (YUL). This jet is typically used on short-haul flights and seats 78 passengers in a 2-2 configuration. The service is daily, though a second flight will operate every day from June 25 to September 7, 2025, to support the busy summer season.

Porter is a decent way to travel between the U.S. and Canada. The airline offers complimentary amenities like snacks, beer, and wine on all tickets, including short-haul flights. The airline said the flights are timed to enable connections to Air Transat, a Porter partner that flies between Canada and Europe.

“Adding a nonstop route from Montréal will make the New York area even more accessible for our passengers, giving them more options to choose from when planning their trips to the Empire State,” said Andrew Pierce, Porter’s vice president of network planning and reporting.

The airline already flies from Newark to Toronto-Billy Bishop (YTZ) and Ottawa (YOW). Montréal will become Porter’s third route from the New York area.

Of course, Porter will have significant competition on the route. The Big 3 U.S. airlines (American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines) all offer nonstop flights from the Big Apple to Montréal. Additionally, Canada’s flag carrier and largest airline, Air Canada, operates several daily flights between the 2 cities. These airlines all use a combination of regional aircraft and larger jets, like the Airbus A220.

Flights are available for sale, with round-trip tickets starting at around $285 this summer — priced similarly to airlines already flying the route. If you decide to book, make sure to book your ticket using a card that rewards you for travel purchases, such as flights.

Hot Tip:

Porter Airlines and Alaska Airlines recently announced reciprocal earnings. Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members can earn miles on Porter flights, while Porter VIPorter members can earn rewards on Alaska flights.

Final Thoughts

Porter is boosting its route map between the U.S. and Canada by adding a nonstop flight between Newark and Montréal. While the airline doesn’t have many frills, it is a convenient, cheap way to fly to several Canadian cities.
