IHG One Rewards’ latest promotion allows members to purchase points with up to a 100% bonus, dropping the price as low as 0.5 cents per point. That’s a better price than other sales we’ve seen recently, meaning this offer can make sense if you’re looking to buy IHG points.

Let’s take a look at the details of the promotion and how you can maximize it.

Buy IHG One Rewards Points With a 100% Bonus

Through January 31, 2025, you can purchase IHG One Rewards points with up to a 100% bonus. This can bring the cost of each point down to just 0.5 cents. That’s right at our valuation of IHG One Rewards points at 0.5 cents per point.

IHG is known for running targeted offers, meaning you may see a different bonus. In order to find out which bonus you’re targeted for, you’ll need to log in to your account. It’s also possible to receive an increased cap on the number of points you can buy each year.

Depending on the offer you’re targeted for, you’ll need to purchase at least 5,000 points to receive the 100% bonus. By purchasing fewer points without the discount, you’ll pay roughly 1.35 cents apiece.

Here are the details you’ll want to be aware of:

  • With this promotion, you can purchase up to 200,000 points before the 100% bonus. If you were to maximize this promotion, you could purchase a total of 400,000 points for $2,000.
  • Purchased points and any bonus points awarded under this offer do not count towards earning IHG One Rewards Elite status.
  • While the purchase limit (before any bonuses) has been raised to 200,000 points during the calendar year, any points purchased previously will count toward the 200,000-point cap. This means the number of points a member can purchase during the offer will depend on how many points they’ve already purchased during the same calendar year.
  • This offer is valid through January 31, 2025.

Unfortunately, this deal does not stack with the 20% discount on point purchases offered with the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card or the IHG One Rewards Premier Business Credit Card, as those discounts only apply to the base price for IHG points — not any bonuses or discounts.

Since IHG sells points through Points.com, this won’t count as a hotel expense on your credit card. If you decide to buy IHG points, you should use your best credit card for everyday spending.

Is This Promotion Worth It?

We value IHG One Rewards points at 0.5 cents per point, though you can certainly get more value than this if you redeem them strategically. If you have a plan for redeeming the points you’d purchase with this promotion and can redeem them above 0.5 cents apiece, buying could be worth it.

The deal is especially worthwhile for those who hold one of the co-branded IHG One Rewards cards and have access to the fourth-night free perk. You’d only need to purchase enough points to cover 3 nights on an upcoming redemption — boosting the value of your points by 33%!

Final Thoughts

As always, it only makes sense to buy points if you have a specific high-value plan to use them. When it comes to purchasing IHG points, 0.5 cents apiece is about as good of a deal as you’re going to get.

This sale likely makes sense for several people — such as those needing just a few more points for an upcoming redemption. It also could make sense if you’re making a redemption where the cost of buying points is less than the cost of paying for the hotel in cash.
