Update:The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

IHG One Rewards’ latest promotion allows members to purchase points with an 80% bonus, bringing the overall cost down to 0.56 cents per point.

Let’s take a look at the details of the promotion and how you can maximize it.

Buy IHG One Rewards Points With an 80% Bonus

Through September 8, 2023, this offer provides the opportunity to purchase IHG One Rewards points with an 80% bonus, which can bring the cost of each point down to just 0.56 cents.

In order to find out which bonus you’re targeted for, you’ll want to log in to your account. It’s also possible to receive an increased cap on the number of points you can buy each year.

Depending on the offer you’re targeted for, you’ll need to buy at least 5,000 points to receive the 80% bonus. By purchasing fewer points without the bonus, you’ll pay roughly 1.35 cents apiece. That’s much higher than our 0.5 cents per point valuation of IHG One Rewards points.

Here are the details you’ll want to be aware of:

  • You can purchase up to 150,000 points, which would net you a total of 270,000 points after the 80% bonus (this costs $1,500).
  • Purchased points and any bonus points awarded under this offer do not count towards earning IHG One Rewards Elite status.
  • Members may purchase a maximum of up to 250,000 points (before any bonuses) during a calendar year, so the number of points a member can purchase during the offer will depend on how many points have already been purchased during the same calendar year.
  • This offer is available through 11:59 p.m. ET on September 8, 2023.

Unfortunately, this deal does not stack with the 20% discount on point purchases offered with the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card or the IHG One Rewards Premier Business Credit Card as those discounts only apply when there is no active buy bonus promotion.

Is This Promotion Worth It?

We value IHG One Rewards points at 0.5 cents per point, though you can certainly get more value than this if you redeem them strategically. If you have a plan for redeeming the points you’d purchase with this promotion, it could be well worth it.

The deal is especially worthwhile for those who hold one of the co-branded IHG One Rewards cards and have access to the fourth-night free perk. You’d only need to purchase enough points to cover 3 nights — boosting the value of your points by 25%!

Final Thoughts

As always, it usually only makes sense to buy points if you have a specific plan to use them. When it comes to purchasing IHG points, 0.56 cents apiece is nearly as good as it gets, so this is a great opportunity to top off your balance if you’ve been saving for a particular redemption.

For those interested, remember that you only have until September 8, 2023, to take advantage of the 80% bonus.

Do these purchases of points qualify for the 10x points bonus when purchasing with an IHG credit card? Would I receive 15,000 IHG One Rewards points for the purchase in addition to the actual points I purchase for the $1500?

No, since the order is processed via points.com, it will not code as a hotel stay and therefore won’t trigger the bonus points.

The example you use of 450,000 points for $2,500 rounds off to 0.6 cents per point (0.55555555556).

They do sell points for 0.5 cents even, but that’s during the 100% bonus promotion at the end of the year. The 80% promotion doesn’t quite get the price down to 0.5 cents per point.
