Qatar Airways has just introduced a new subscription-based points-earning scheme.

For a fee ranging from $50 per month to $3,500 per year, the so-called Privilege Club Pro awards subscribers with varying amounts of Avios and even Qpoints, the name for the airline’s elite-qualifying points.

We love hearing about a new way to earn points as much as you do. But, before we all get too excited, let’s take a closer look to see whether it’s a good deal.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club’s Avios Subscription

Privilege Pro subscriptions come in 2 formats: monthly or annual.

No matter how you choose to pay, there are 4 tiers available at different prices. “Access” is the cheapest option and “Ultimate” is the most expensive. The latter is the only option that awards Qatar Airways‘ status-earning Qpoints.

If you opt for the annual subription, you’ll save money overall, but you’ll still receive the points in monthly disbursements instead of a single lump sum upon payment.

Note that you need to be a member of Qatar Airways Privilege Club loyalty program before signing up for an Avios subscription. If you’re not already a member, you can sign up for free here.

Is It Worth It?

Let’s take a closer look at each tier to find how much you’ll end up paying for each Avios.

We value Avios at 1.25 cents apiece. None of the available tiers come close to matching or besting that price.

The price per each Avios comes down by choosing to pay annually, but the closest you’ll get to our valuation of 1.25 cents apiece is though the Exclusive plan which would allow you to purchase Avios at 1.33 cents apiece.

Even though the best price of 1.33 cents per Avios is higher than our valuation, we could see a case for purchasing Avios at this price if you needed to urgently top up your account for an amazing redemption. However, because Avios are disbursed monthly regardless of how you pay for your subscription, there’s even less incentive to sign up.

Final Thoughts

Paying for Avios, or any airline currency for that matter, can make sense in a few scenarios, like if you can purchase them for a great price or you need points expeditiously for a redemption you need to make.

Unfortunately, buying Avios via the new Qatar Airways Privilege Club Pro subscription plans doesn’t pass muster for either case.
