Although the Alaska Airlines loyalty program has undergone major changes in the last year, it remains a favorite for award travelers. The newly updated Atmos Rewards program offers travelers a fantastic rewards structure and the ability to redeem points for numerous partner airlines.

Although I already have a decent amount of Atmos Rewards points, I am always trying to earn more. So when the airline announced the new premium Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® card, I knew I had to apply for it.

Best of all, the Atmos Rewards Summit card comes with a sizable welcome offer for new applicants:

  • Earn 100,000 bonus points after spending $6,000 or more on purchases within the first 90 days.

Here’s an overview of the Atmos Rewards Summit card, the value of Atmos Rewards points, and how I redeemed the card’s massive welcome offer.

What Are Atmos Rewards Points Worth?

Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards are incredibly valuable, and a favorite here at Upgraded Points. We value Alaska Atmos Rewards points at 1.6 cents, the highest of any airline rewards currency. This means that the current welcome bonus offer is worth at least $1,280 for flights.

Of course, how you opt to redeem the points ultimately determines how much value you can get. Fortunately, there are many ways to redeem Atmos Rewards points.

How I Redeemed 100K+ Atmos Rewards Points

Here at Upgraded Points, we are all about getting the maximum value from our points and miles. As mentioned, after meeting the minimum spending requirements for the Atmos Rewards Summit card, I would have slightly over 100,000 Atmos Rewards points.

In recent years, I have redeemed nearly all my airline points and miles on long-haul international premium cabin flights, which tend to have high cash prices. That strategy would not change with the points earned from this bonus offer.

My wife and I have traveled quite a bit together in recent years, but we hadn’t visited Europe together since before the pandemic. Since our mutual friend was getting married in London, this was the perfect opportunity for us to visit. Fortunately, several airlines offer nonstop flights between Chicago (ORD) and London Heathrow (LHR), and plenty more offer 1-stop flights.

I wanted to arrive in London at least a day before the wedding, so I went to Alaska’s website to check award availability between Chicago O’Hare and London Heathrow. Thanks to Alaska’s intuitive search engine, I was able to find business class flights on Oneworld partner American Airlines for 55,000 points plus $19 in taxes and fees.

Meanwhile, there was also the option to book a British Airways-operated business class flight for the same 55,000 Alaska Atmos Rewards points per person. However, the taxes and fees were more than $900 higher per person than the American Airlines-operated flight.

Since I did not want to pay much more to fly British Airways, we booked the American Airlines-operated business class flights for 55,000 Alaska Atmos Rewards points per person, or 110,000 points for both of us.

However, it gets even better, since the Atmos Rewards Summit card provides a 25,000-point Global Companion Award. These awards function as discounts off a second award ticket on any Alaska, Hawaiian, or partner ticket in any cabin class.

This meant that my award would cost 55,000 points but my wife’s would only cost 30,000 points. So my wife and I were headed to London in business class for just 85,000 Alaska Atmos Rewards points, which I received from a single welcome bonus offer.

This is incredible value from Alaska Atmos Rewards points, as these business class cash fares typically sell for more than $5,000 per person.

This redemption netted me an insane 13.7 cents per point.

Final Thoughts

The new Atmos Rewards Summit card is a fantastic travel rewards card and a welcome addition to my credit card arsenal. It provides numerous perks and benefits, including a highly valuable 25,000-point Global Companion Award that is seamless to use.

By utilizing the card’s bonus offer and the Global Companion Award, my wife and I were able to fly to London in business class — and still have points leftover.
