We always welcome new opportunities to redeem points, and the latest option is using Aeroplan points to fly on Eurowings, a Lufthansa subsidiary offering flights around Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.

Let’s take a look at this new use of points to reach additional destinations.

Redeem Aeroplan Points on Eurowings Flights

Aeroplan is the rewards program of Air Canada, and you can redeem Aeroplan points across an impressive list of 50 partners. That list now includes Eurowings, which is owned by Lufthansa but isn’t part of the Miles & More rewards program shared by many airlines in the Lufthansa Group.

Eurowings operates a fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft, and it doesn’t use the typical Lufthansa hubs at Frankfurt (FRA) and Munich (MUC). Instead, Eurowings operates from other German cities like Berlin (BER), Cologne (CGN), Düsseldorf (DUS), and Hamburg (HAM). Flights on shorter distances only have economy seating, but you can find business class on Eurowings’ longer flights.

While Aeroplan does have special award chart for Emirates flights, redemptions on Eurowings will use the standard Aeroplan award chart. This chart divides the world into regions, and then prices award tickets based on distance within these regions.

All of Eurowings’ destinations are in Aeroplan’s Atlantic zone, meaning you’ll pay as few as 7,500 points for flights under 1,000 miles in distance. Redemptions in business class start at 15,000 points. You can pay these prices on flights from Berlin (BER) to Stockholm (ARN), for example.

Aeroplan doesn’t add fuel surcharges to its award redemptions, but you will pay a standard fee for booking partner airlines (39 CAD, which is roughly $28.25).

How To Earn Aeroplan Points

Luckily, it’s pretty easy to earn Aeroplan points. You can transfer points and miles from American Express Membership Rewards, Barclays miles, Bilt Rewards, Capital One Miles, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Marriott Bonvoy.

Aeroplan’s credit cards can also help to boost your stash, and they’re issued in the U.S. and Canada.

Final Thoughts

There’s another way to redeem your Aeroplan points, starting today. You can use your points to fly on Eurowings, a low-cost airline from Europe that’s owned by Lufthansa. This means you can redeem points on flights within Europe as well as to North Africa and the Middle East.
