Virgin Atlantic and South American giant LATAM have been partners since 2022, when the airlines entered a codeshare agreement.

That relationship now includes the ability to redeem Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club points to fly on LATAM flights. You should be able to find availability to book online.

Here’s what you need to know about this expanded partnership.

How You Can Redeem Virgin Points for LATAM Flights

As first reported by AwardWallet, Virgin is offering its Flying Club members the ability to redeem points on LATAM, the biggest airline in South America. LATAM has nonstop services from several hubs in North America and Europe to the main gateways in South America.

LATAM Pass, the South American airline’s loyalty program, does not have as many transfer partners as Flying Club. Thhis partnership unlocks the ability to book LATAM flights with points more easily, since Virgin Atlantic is a partner of most of the major transferable point programs (Amex Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Capital One Miles, Citi ThankYou Rewards, and Bilt Rewards). All of these programs transfer to Virgin at a 1:1 ratio.

Virgin Atlantic also publishes award charts for partner redemptions. Below, the LATAM award chart is broken out by distance-based and region-based pricing, depending on the type of flight. Note the rates displayed are for one-way flights.

Here’s an example of a points fare between New York-JFK and Santiago (SCL), Chile, for 37,500 points in economy and 95,000 in business. Neither is an especially attractive points fare, but taxes and fees are low, at $42 for both economy and business on a nonstop flight.

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club offers several niche redemption opportunities at favorable rates, including with Tokyo-based ANA and others. Here’s our complete guide to the best ways to redeem Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points.

Final Thoughts

It’s now possible to book LATAM flights using Virgin points via Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club program. While redemption rates are fairly run-of-the-mill, this option gives travelers an easy way to redeem flights to, from, and within South America.

Typically, it’s fairly difficult to book award flights to and from South America, but this new development in the Virgin-LATAM partnership makes things much more straightforward.

However, most importantly, it should be relatively easy to acquire the miles needed to book these flights since Virgin maintains transfer relationships with most of the top transferable currencies.

You can also earn LATAM Pass miles on Virgin flights, and vice versa.
