Update:The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

For a limited time, StatusMatch.com is offering the opportunity to match your elite status to Royal Air Maroc’s Safar Flyer program.

While you may not think having Royal Air Maroc status would do you much good, remember that the airline recently joined the Oneworld alliance, which means you could earn up to Sapphire status within the alliance, entitling you a number of valuable perks.

Let’s take a look at this promotion to see if it’s worth it.

Fast Track Your Status With Royal Air Maroc

Let’s take a quick look at the requirements of the Safar Flyer Status Match offered by Royal Air Maroc and StatusMatch.com.

In order to complete the status match you must:

  • Have status with an approved airline (listed below)
  • Have a Royal Air Maroc Safar Flyer account
  • Complete the application
  • Pay the €49 (~$54) application fee

Applications may take up to 5 days to be approved. If the match goes through, your Safar Flyer status will be valid through May 31, 2023.

The promotion is limited and valid until May 31, 2022, or until the cap is met.

Airlines You Can Status Match From

You can match your status to Royal Air Maroc from a healthy number of airlines, including ITA — the new Italian flag carrier that is offering a status match of its own right now:

Why You’d Want To Match Status to Royal Air Maroc

There’s a big reason you’d want to match your status to Royal Air Maroc, even if you don’t fly with the airline at all. If you match to Royal Air Maroc Gold, it will grant you Oneworld Sapphire status, which can be very valuable.

A standout benefit of Oneworld Sapphire is access to American Airlines Flagship Lounges (even on domestic flights), free checked bags, and priority boarding.

Here’s a look at the full slate of benefits for each tier of Oneworld status:

How To Apply for Safar Flyer Status

The process for applying for a Royal Air Maroc status match is straightforward. However, if you’re creating a Safar Flyer account for the first time, beware that the site can be glitchy.

First, visit SafarFlyerStatusMatch.com and enter your name, email, and Safar Flyer Membership number.

Then, you’ll be asked to select which airline you’d like to match from. From there you’ll provide the status level you currently have as well as your frequent flyer number in that program.

Next, you’ll need to upload an unedited and uncropped photograph of your physical membership card or a photograph of your computer or tablet screen — not a screenshot.

I ended up having to resubmit 3 times because, apparently, the system didn’t like the angle of the photo I took. Keep an eye on your email inbox for any requests like that.

After that, you’ll be presented with your potential new status level if your application is approved.

After paying the €49 (~$54), you’ll receive your application number which you can use to track your application progress online.

Hot Tip: Members of our Facebook Group, Level UP Travel, were having trouble creating a Safar Flyer account. After testing, we started seeing success after using the international site or using a foreign address.

Final Thoughts

This is an excellent opportunity to leverage your status with another airline to get a status match with Royal Air Maroc.

If you match to Gold status, you’ll also earn Sapphire status with the Oneworld alliance, which can be very valuable, especially when flying with Alaska Airlines and American Airlines.

Although the application process is easy on paper, some might run into trouble creating a Safar Flyer membership — just keep trying and remember to attempt applying through the international site.
