File this firmly in the rumor category, but it’s interesting enough that we wanted to make you aware. There are unconfirmed reports swirling that Chase is gearing up to add 2 major transfer partners to its list of airline partners: Cathay Pacific and Qantas.

Again, at this point, this is nothing more than a rumor, but let’s take a look at what the ramifications of these additions could look like.

Chase Is Rumored To Add Cathay Pacific and Qantas as Transfer Partners

A thread posted on Reddit claims that Chase is preparing to announce the addition of Cathay Pacific’s Cathay and Qantas’ Frequent Flyer programs as the latest Ultimate Rewards transfer partners.

At this point, nothing is confirmed, but these would certainly be interesting adds for the program, which currently has 10 airline and 4 hotel programs. All of Chase’s airline partners have 1:1 transfer ratios, so we assume that if these rumors prove true, points will transfer at the same rate.

These additions would be a solid boost to Chase’s roster of airline partners, which still lags behind American Express Membership Rewards, which offers 16 airline programs.

It would also give those with Ultimate Rewards points more options for Oneworld alliance redemptions, since both airlines are members. Notably, if these programs are added as Ultimate Rewards partners at 1:1 ratios, Chase would have Amex beat in at least 1 area. That’s because the transfer ratio from American Express to Cathay is 5:4 (Amex has a 1:1 transfer ratio with Qantas).

While neither program is our first choice when it comes to searching for award flights, having more options is absolutely a good thing.

Before you start making any plans for your Ultimate Rewards points, a word of caution: None of this has been confirmed by Chase, Cathay Pacific, or Qantas. Moreover, the internet has a penchant for making rumors feel true. Case in point: Earlier this year, the internet descended into a tizzy over alleged leaked documents that outlined changes to the World of Hyatt program, none of which was confirmed by Hyatt.

Those rumors proved to be completely false, so keep that saga in mind when digesting this information.

Hot Tip:

Final Thoughts

Rumors are flying, and this is certainly an interesting one. If it proves to be true, Chase Ultimate Rewards would gain 2 transfer partners in Cathay Pacific and Qantas, bringing its total number of airline partners to 12. Neither of these programs will change the game entirely for those with Ultimate Rewards points, but we’ll never say no to having more options for redeeming our points for incredible flights.
