Chase Ultimate Rewards

The Ink Business Preferred card, on the other hand, combines strong point-earning potential across multiple bonus categories, for a relatively low annual fee of $95.

Earn up to 300,000 Points in Combined Welcome Bonus Offers

One of the best benefits of adding a new credit card to your wallet is the welcome bonus offer you can receive after meeting the minimum spend requirement. Both of these Chase business cards currently have excellent offers.

With the Chase Sapphire Reserve Business card, you can receive the following offer: Earn 200,000 bonus points after you spend $30,000 on purchases in your first 6 months and access more than $7,000 in total business and travel value in your first year.

With the Ink Business Preferred card, the current welcome bonus offer is: Earn 100,000 bonus points after you spend $8,000 on purchases in the first 3 months.

If you were to earn the welcome bonus offer on both of these cards, you would end up with 300,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points, and according to our current valuations, those points are worth about $6,000.

*3x points earning on the Ink Business Preferred card applies up to the first $150,000 spent in combined purchases in the 3x categories, each account anniversary year. After the first $150,000, you’ll earn 1x.

With the Chase Sapphire Reserve Business and the Ink Business Preferred as your 2-card combo, you’ll earn between 3x to 8x points on a wide variety of your business expesnes.

This allows you to use your Chase Sapphire Reserve Business card to for advertising, flight, hotel, and travel bought on the Chase Travel portal, while the Ink Business Preferred card is used for shipping and general travel, along with your internet, cable, and phone service expenses.

Hot Tip:

Even though both cards earn 3x points on advertising spend, it makes more sense to use your Chase Sapphire Reserve Business card for these expenses since its 3x rewards are uncapped. This allows you to spend more on the other 3x categories of the Ink Business Preferred card before hitting the $150,000 annual threshold.

Pooling Rewards Together

Since the rewards earned across both cards are Chase Ultimate Rewards points, you can pool your rewards together to take advantage of the variety of redemption options.

While both cards already have access to the suite of Chase transfer partners, there are 2 added ways that holding the Chase Sapphire Reserve Business card helps boost the value of your points.

The first is that holding the Chase Sapphire Reserve Business card allows you to transfer your points to the World of Hyatt program, one of Chase’s most popular transfer partners, at a 1:1 rate instead of the 4:3 rate offered on the Ink Business Preferred card. That gives you 33% more points on these transfers than you would have had otherwise with just the Ink Business Preferred card.

Additionally, both cards offer the Chase Points Boost feature, which allows you to redeem you points on select flights and hotels booked through Chase Travel. However, with the Ink Business Preferred card the maximum redemption you can receive using Points Boost is up to 1.75 cents per point, compared to up to 2 cents per point with the Chase Sapphire Reserve Business card.

Bottom Line:

Pairing the Chase Sapphire Reserve Business card and the Ink Business Preferred card together not only helps you earn more points on all of your business expenses, but also helps you receive more value out of these points once you’re ready to redeem them.

Final Thoughts

The Chase Sapphire Reserve Business card is built for premium travel perks and helpful business credits, albeit with a large annual fee, and the Ink Business Preferred card is built for earning more points on common business expenses, with a more reasonable fee. That is why they pair so well together.

For business owners who want to maximize all of their expenses and don’t mind paying an extra annual fee, adding the other card in this duo makes for a powerful combo.
