Singapore Airlines is making more changes to its KrisFlyer program.

After announcing a devaluation to its award chart this morning, it’s making another update that will make it easier for some flyers to earn elite status.

Let’s dive into everything you need to know.

Singapore Airlines Adds Ability To Spend to Elite Status

As of September 1, 2025, Singapore Airlines will introduce new ways to earn elite status in the KrisFlyer program that don’t involve flying. Currently, only flying counts toward earning elite status or PPS Club membership.

KrisFlyer members can earn Elite miles by flying with Singapore Airlines, Scoot, Star Alliance partner carriers, and other non-alliance partners. Meanwhile, to gain membership in the PPS Club, offering a more exclusive level of elite status, flyers must accrue “PPS Value,” which is done by flying Singapore Suites, first class, or business class.

However, come September 1, members will gain the ability to earn elite-qualifying miles and PPS Value for a variety of spending activities.

General KrisFlyer members will earn 1 Elite mile for every SGD$1 spent (about $0.78 USD) on Kris+ shopping and dining in Singapore and Australia, on KrisShop purchases, and Pelago experiences bookings.

PPS Club members will earn 1 PPS Value for every SGD$3 (about $2.33) spent on the same purchases. There is a cap to the number of Elite miles and PPS Values that can be earned via non-flying activity. You can view the details for KrisFlyer members and PPS Club members here.

Additionally, the airline announced caps for how much you can earn from non-flying activities, including 5,000 and 10,000 elite miles for KrisFlyer Silver and Gold status, respectively. PPS Club members will have a cap of 2,500 or 5,000 PPS Value, depending on their tier.

Elite status in the KrisFlyer program isn’t the most rewarding in the industry, but it’s nice for members to have options to earn toward status without flying. That being said, the qualifying activities for non-flying elite accrual are quite limited in scope. You won’t be earning toward elite status on many everyday purchases.

This news comes just after the airline announced a devaluation of its award chart and the introduction of a dynamic pricing model that’s an addition to — not a replacement for — the existing Saver and Advantage award charts.

Hot Tip:

Final Thoughts

On September 1, Singapore Airlines flyers will have new ways to get closer to elite status, thanks to the addition of a few qualifying non-flying activities.

However, you can’t earn elite status exclusively via spending, as there’s a cap on the Elite miles and PPS Value members can earn.
