Southwest has just made another interesting (and peculiar) move: It’s signed an interline agreement with a second major Taiwanese carrier, EVA Air.

This is the latest in a string of partnerships the airline has entered into with foreign carriers in the past year. Here’s what you need to know.

Southwest’s New Partnership With EVA Air

Southwest Airlines has entered into an interline agreement with EVA Air of Taiwan, effective immediately.

The agreement will allow passengers on either airline to book journeys on a single itinerary covering 4 of EVA’s U.S. gateways: Chicago (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), and Seattle (SEA).

As it stands now, the partnership doesn’t extend any deeper than an interline agreement, meaning there are no reciprocal mileage earning or redemption opportunities, no codeshares on flights, or anything else. Of course, that could change in the future, but for now the collaboration is limited to booking journeys on single itineraries and tagging bags to final destinations — both to and from cities that are covered by the partnership.

You can view possible itineraries on EVA’s website right now:

Southwest’s partnership with EVA comes amid a year of immense change for the Dallas-based airline. Among significant policy changes, including charging for bags for the first time, the carrier is increasingly focused on international growth by expanding its network of global partners and giving Rapid Rewards members access to more destinations worldwide.

In early 2025, Southwest announced a collaboration with Icelandair, and just a few months ago it shared that it was partnering with another Taiwanese carrier, China Airlines.

It’s very interesting indeed that Southwest has entered into partnerships with 2 competing airlines in competing alliances (China Airlines belongs to SkyTeam, while EVA is in the Star Alliance) based out of the same airport. Still, it could signal more cooperation to come in various ways, and it will provide more opportunities for passengers on either side of the Pacific who want seamless travel between Southeast Asia and North America.

Final Thoughts

Southwest continues its quest to better connect its flyers with the rest of the world, this time coming through a new interline agreement with Taiwan’s EVA Air. This is just the latest in a line of new partnerships for the airline this year, including China Airlines as a second option across the Pacific and Icelandair for flights across the Atlantic.

We look forward to seeing these partnerships mature and become even more fruitful for Southwest loyalists. If this new announcement is any indication, Southwest will likely sign more partnerships soon.
