Spirit has announced its latest roundup of changes that aim to improve both the inflight and loyalty program experience with customers. Changes include extra legroom seating, more Free Spirit perks, and the launch of a rewards-earning debit card.

Here is a full look at what you can expect from Spirit in the future.

New Extra Legroom Seating

Spirit will soon reimagine its Go Comfy style seating by giving 4 additional inches of legroom for a new total pitch of 32 inches in these Go Comfy seats.

You’ll find the new Go Comfy seats across the first 7 rows of the aircraft, which is more than 40 seats. Spirit aims to begin installation of these new seats in June and plans to retrofit the majority of its fleet by July — though retrofitting the entire fleet isn’t expected to be completed until 2026.

In addition to extra legroom, Go Comfy tickets will include a carry-on bag, no change or cancellation fees, priority boarding, reserved overhead bin space, and both a complimentary snack and non-alcoholic beverage.

You’ll be able to start booking Go Comfy tickets on your upcoming travel with Spirit starting on May 15 for travel beginning on July 9, 2025.

Free Spirit Loyalty Program Enhancements

Spirit is also upgrading its Free Spirit loyalty program to deliver more value to travelers. Updates include the following:

  • Complimentary upgrades: Free Spirit status members and those with the Free Spirit® Travel More World Elite Mastercard® will enjoy complimentary upgrades to the Big Front Seat and Go Comfy seating at boarding for themselves and up to 1 traveling companion. Your upgrade priority will be based on your status level within the program. This benefit will take effect in June.
  • 2 complimentary checked bags for credit card holders: Those with the Free Spirit World Elite card will soon receive 2 free checked bags on all Spirit flights. This benefit will launch later this year, though an exact date is unknown.
  • New Free Spirit Debit Card launching: Don’t want to use a credit card? The new Free Spirit Debit Card, set to launch this fall, will allow you to earn points that you can then redeem for travel with Spirit, and it comes with perks like priority boarding and a 25% rebate on inflight purchases.
  • Expanded redemption options: You can now redeem Free Spirit points for premium options like Big Front Seat and Go Comfy seats. Soon, Spirit also plans to add redemption options that include personalized experiences and elevated perks.
Hot Tip:

After Spirit emerged from bankruptcy recently, the airline is now reworking its business model in an attempt to be more competitive against legacy and other low-cost carriers.

Final Thoughts

While some of the exact details around these new features and benefits aren’t official yet, these are all welcome additions to the Free Spirit program.

Further, one of the major gripes with travelers who have flown Spirit is the lack of legroom they receive with their seats. Now, you’ll soon have an option to get 4 more inches of legroom in Go Comfy seats, albeit that comes with a more expensive ticket price than Spirit’s cheapest economy fares.

That said, the ability to receive complimentary upgrades to these seats for Free Spirit members and Free Spirit World Elite cardholders will make the program more competitive with frequent travelers.
