You know airline trading cards are officially a “thing” when Spirit Airlines jumps in. The ultra-low-cost carrier just rolled out its first-ever set of collectible trading cards, and they spotlight something AvGeeks actually love: airplanes.

Here’s what you need to know and how to get your hands on these fun trading cards.

Airline Trading Cards Are Having a Moment

If you’ve been around airports or aviation TikTok lately, you’ve probably noticed that Airline trading cards are becoming a real travel trend. What used to be a niche hobby has gone more mainstream, with airlines joining in the fun.

We’ve already seen Hawaiian Airlines get creative with its own set, Alaska Airlines release new designs, and Delta Air Lines celebrate its history with a special collection.

Now Spirit is in the mix.

Spirit Trading Cards
You can ask the flight crew — especially the pilots — for trading cards on your next Spirit flight, but availability depends on the crew and route, so it’s always a bit of a fun surprise if they have them on board. Image Credit: Spirit Airlines

The airline’s first-edition trading card collection is sponsored by Airbus and focuses entirely on aircraft from Spirit’s fleet over the years. There are 6 cards in the set, featuring planes such as the A319ceo, A320ceo, A320neo, A321ceo, and A321neo.

Additionally, the cards show how Spirit’s look has changed over time from its older, gray, brick-style livery to the bright yellow planes it’s known for today. It’s a small but cool reflection of the airline’s evolution.

Unfortunately, you won’t find these in an online store. The only way to get one is on board a Spirit flight. The low-cost carrier says travelers can ask the pilots for trading cards during boarding or while deplaning, making it feel more like a fun, behind-the-scenes aviation perk than a promo item.

Hot Tip:

If you want a better shot at getting one, you can ask during boarding, but your best chance is usually during the flight or at deplaning when the flight deck crew isn’t as busy. Not every crew will have cards, and availability varies, but once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Final Thoughts

Airline trading cards are turning into a fun little part of flying, and Spirit’s plane-focused set is the latest addition to this quirky-but-cool trend. If you’re flying them soon, it doesn’t hurt to ask — worst case, they don’t have any. Best case, you walk off the plane with something pretty neat that most people don’t even know exists.
