New $89-Annual-Fee Card From Sun Country

Sun Country Airlines has just launched the Sun Country Visa Signature® credit card. The card is issued by Synchrony, now that Sun Country’s partnership with First National Bank of Omaha (FNBO) and its previous credit offerings has ended.

The card earns points as follows:

  • Up to 5x Sun Country rewards points for every $1 spent on Sun Country purchases (3x when using your card and 2x when you fly)
  • 2x rewards points for every $1 spent on gas station and grocery store purchases
  • 1x rewards points on all other purchases

That’s not all. You’ll also receive the following benefits on the card, which has an $89 annual fee:

  • 50% off your first checked bag for you and your companions traveling on the same itinerary
  • 50% off Best and Standard seat selections for yourself and travel companions when purchasing pre-flight on suncountry.com or on the mobile app
  • A 10,000-point anniversary bonus if you spend $10,000 on your card in a 12-month period, calculated each year from your account opening date
  • Complimentary premium drink and a 25% discount on additional in-flight food and beverages when paying with your card

Perhaps the most exciting perk is the generous welcome bonus you’ll earn with the card. You’ll earn 25,000 bonus points when you spend $1,000 in the first 90 days after opening. Sun Country values its own points at 1 cent each, making this haul worth $250.

Bottom Line:

The Sun Country Visa Signature® credit card is issued by Synchrony. While it isn’t a major issuer like American Express, Chase, or Citi, the company offers well over 100 credit card options. Most of them are linked to major merchants; however, Synchrony does offer a co-branded credit card with Cathay Pacific.

Improvements to Sun Country Rewards

The airline is also improving its Sun Country Rewards program by making it easier to earn Plus status.

You can earn Plus status by taking 10 flights in a calendar year or spending $10,000 annually on the Sun Country Visa card. Plus members receive benefits such as no change or cancellation fees, priority security, and more.

Final Thoughts

Sun Country Airlines has launched a new credit card, which comes with a decent welcome bonus, solid perks, and an modest annual fee. The card will make the most sense if you’re a Sun Country loyalist who’s looking for an easy way to earn Sun Country Rewards on travel and everyday purchases.
