Thai Airways is preparing for one of the most significant cabin overhauls in its recent history, with plans to introduce a completely new business class product across much of its long-haul fleet beginning in 2027.

Here’s a look at Thai Airways’ fleet modernization plan and its new business class cabin.

A Streamlined Future for the Thai Airways Long-Haul Fleet

Historically, Bangkok-based Thai Airways has operated a diverse fleet with varying cabin products, making the passenger experience highly dependent on the aircraft assigned to a particular route.

Today, the airline’s long-haul network includes Boeing 777-300ERs, Boeing 787 Dreamliners, and Airbus A350-900s, many of which feature different seat types and cabin layouts.

To simplify operations and improve consistency, Thai Airways is embarking on a multiyear fleet modernization plan for its Royal Silk business class product. Beginning in mid-2027, the airline will retrofit its Boeing 777-300ER fleet with entirely new interiors.

Around the same time, newly delivered Boeing 787-9 and 787-10 aircraft will enter service featuring the updated cabin design from day 1. The modernization effort will then extend to the Airbus A350-900 fleet starting in 2028.

As part of the fleet overhaul, Thai Airways plans to eliminate traditional first class, in line with global aviation trends. Instead, it will be replaced by an enhanced “Business Class Plus” suite concept, with premium economy cabins introduced across these aircraft.

The New Business Class Cabin

The centerpiece of Thai Airways’ transformation is its selection of the Thompson Aero VantageNOVA platform as its next-generation business class seat. The VantageNOVA is a modern reverse-herringbone design that provides every passenger with direct aisle access in a 1-2-1 configuration.

The seats incorporate sliding privacy doors, a feature that has become increasingly common among leading international airlines. The new cabin will also include a premium front “Business Class Plus” row, offering an upgraded experience for passengers willing to pay a premium over standard business class, with some additional privacy and space.

Though the VantageNOVA seat has not yet entered commercial service, it has already attracted industry attention because it will also be used by Delta Air Lines for Delta One Suites on future Airbus A350-1000 aircraft.

Beyond the seating and cabin, Thai Airways passengers can expect improvements in cabin technology, connectivity, and overall comfort. Combine this with Thai Airways’ reputation for warm hospitality and strong onboard service, and the new hard product has the potential to elevate the airline’s standing among global premium carriers.

Final Thoughts

The new business class product is definitely a step in the right direction, bringing Thai Airways into line with current premium cabin standards. Thai Airways’ new business class strategy represents more than just a seat upgrade — it reflects the airline’s broader effort to modernize and create a consistent premium experience across its fleet.

The rollout is set to launch in mid-2027 and could significantly enhance Thai Airways’ competitiveness and help establish a more cohesive, modern identity.
