Update: The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

Chase is out with its latest offer in its Chase Offers program, and this one is something you don’t see too often. You can save up to 10% on United flights booked with your eligible card, which will surely benefit many travelers this summer as airfares continue to rise.

The Offer

This Chase Offer may be on one or more of your Chase cards, so be sure to head to the Chase app or chase.com to see if you were targeted. If you were, you can simply add it to your card and then use that card for the required purchase.

With this offer, you’ll earn 5% cash-back on any United Airlines ticket purchase when you spend $50 or more or earn 10% cash-back when you purchase an Economy Plus ticket, with a maximum cash-back of $71.

Hot Tip: United’s Economy Plus seats offer a little extra legroom and are closer to the front of the aircraft so that you can disembark more quickly. You’ll also earn Premier Qualifying Points (PQPs) towards MileagePlus elite status.

To hit this maximum, you’ll need to purchase $1,420 in airfare for the 5% cash-back or $710 in Economy Plus airfare for the 10% cash-back, so this offer certainly requires a lot of spend to get the most out of it. That said, with airfares as high as they are this summer, it may not be too difficult to hit that amount.

One of the biggest catches of this offer is that you need to complete everything in 1 purchase, so you won’t be able to make separate reservations under separate reservations in order for it to count. That said, there are 2 strategies you can use:

  • Consider purchasing a reservation now to trigger the offer, then canceling that reservation to receive a credit which you can then use to purchase multiple separate flights.
  • If you don’t have any flights in mind to book, you can use the same strategy to take the credit but then use it in the future, without having to commit to specific flights now, thanks to United’s flexible change policy.

Your purchase needs to be used on a United ticket purchase, so things like a lounge membership, bag fees, etc. won’t count. You’ll need to purchase a plane ticket to get the credit.

The offer expires on August 1, 2022, so there’s not much time to spare to use this offer. Your transaction will need to post by that date, so the quicker you complete your purchase, the faster it will post. It’s worth noting that your travel can be after August 1, simply, you just need to have your ticket purchased by then.

Final Thoughts

It’s not often you find a discount on airfare on a domestic U.S.-based airline, but with this latest Chase Offer, you can save up to $71 back on your ticket, which can be very valuable. Be sure to check your Chase cards to see if you were targeted, and if you are, make sure to add the offer to your card.
