Marriott’s W Hotels brand and the Las Vegas Strip seem like a match made in heaven: They’re both a bit over-the-top and possess a certain glamour that many can’t quite place.

No matter how surprising it seems, Las Vegas hasn’t had a W hotel in recent years. Starting today, that changes. After announcing a W property on the Mandalay Bay campus this past October, the W Las Vegas is open for guests.

This is the latest development in Marriott and MGM’s partnership that launched earlier this year. Here’s what you should know about the W Las Vegas and how to book it with points.

W Las Vegas Opens on the Mandalay Bay Campus

Just months after the partnership between Marriott and the MGM Collection went live, the 2 companies have converted the former Delano Las Vegas property on the Mandalay Bay campus into a W hotel. The W Las Vegas features 1,117 all-suite guestrooms and does not have its own casino.

“W Hotels is a brand that is celebrated globally for their unique style and exceptional service, and we can’t wait to see the hotel come to life over the next couple of years, through its distinct personality, dynamic programming and elevated service culture,” said Travis Lunn, President & COO of Mandalay Bay and Luxor.

Marriott and MGM announced the rebrand in October, and the property is open for business today, December 18, 2024. It’s the 12th Las Vegas property in Marriott’s MGM Collection, which lets Marriott Bonvoy members book MGM hotels with Marriott Bonvoy points and use select elite status benefits.

Travelers who stayed at the Delano Las Vegas will be met with a familiar hotel at the W Las Vegas, as the property did not undergo major renovation during its short closure. That said, a press release issued by MGM Resorts states that “Details surrounding additional enhancements planned for W Las Vegas will be shared at a later date.” Thus, there is still more work to be done.

Travelers with existing reservations at the Delano Las Vegas have had their reservations transferred to the W Las Vegas. New bookings can be made through Marriott and MGM’s booking channels.

Booking the W Las Vegas

Make sure you book through Marriott’s website or mobile app if you want to earn or redeem Marriott Bonvoy points at the W Las Vegas. Similarly, travelers who want to earn or redeem MGM Rewards points should book directly with MGM.

Looking ahead to February, weekday rates start at $159 per night, including the nightly $50 resort fee. This rate climbs to over $700 per night on select dates toward the end of the month.

Of course, you can redeem Marriott Bonvoy points for stays at the W Las Vegas too. Nights start at just 17,000 points per night in February and top out at 150,000 points per night when cash rates are high.

You still have to pay the resort fee (and sales tax on said resort fee) when redeeming Marriott Bonvoy points for a night at the hotel. That said, top-tier Marriott Ambassador Elite members enjoy waived resort fees at MGM Collection properties.

Do the math before you redeem Marriott Bonvoy points at the W Las Vegas. Since you still have to pay the $50 per night resort fee on award bookings, it often makes sense to pay for stays when the cash rate is low, saving your points for a future booking.

Final Thoughts

Marriott continues to make its presence known on the Las Vegas Strip in a big way, such as opening the freshly rebranded W Las Vegas inside the former Delano Las Vegas. You can book rooms through Marriott or MGM if you’re planning a trip to Sin City.
