One of Miami Beach’s best-known hotels, the W South Beach, is closing its doors for a major renovation later this year.

While the temporary closure is significant in itself, an even bigger change will occur after the property reopens. The hotel is expected to leave Marriott Bonvoy, ending its affiliation with Marriott’s loyalty program and brand portfolio.

Here’s what you need to know.

W South Beach Closing as of August 2026

The W South Beach, a 350-room all-suite property in Miami Beach, is one of the most popular hotels in the area. Unfortunately, the property will close as of mid-August 2026 for major renovations. This is a relatively strange development — the property underwent a roughly $30 million renovation in 2020.

As of now, reservations for the hotel are no longer available beyond August 17, 2026, according to Marriott’s website. Existing reservations at the property beyond this day will likely be canceled, though no confirmation has been provided.

Although details about the hotel’s future branding and management remain limited, we have learned that the property will no longer be affiliated with Marriott Bonvoy once it reopens.

What This Means for Marriott Bonvoy Members

For years, the W South Beach has been a popular option for Marriott Bonvoy members looking to redeem Marriott Bonvoy points at one of Miami Beach’s premier beachfront resorts. For Marriott Bonvoy members, this represents a significant loss.

The property has long been one of the most aspirational redemption options in the U.S., offering members the opportunity to use points for stays at a luxury oceanfront resort in one of the country’s most popular leisure markets.

If the hotel has been on your radar, you can still book it with cash or Marriott Bonvoy points for a few more weeks.

Fortunately, Miami and Miami Beach have many excellent hotels to choose from, including numerous properties that can be booked with points. Marriott has a significant presence in the area, including many luxurious properties such as The Miami Beach EDITION, The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach, and UNFRAMED, Autograph Collection.

Final Thoughts

The W South Beach is no longer taking reservations past August 17, 2026, as the hotel is set to undergo significant renovations. However, more notably, the property will also be leaving the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio.

This hotel is one of the most sought-after in Miami Beach, especially for redeeming points. If this is a property you have been looking to stay at, book your reservations as soon as possible.
