SAS EuroBonus — the loyalty program behind Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) — is relatively unknown in the U.S., but it’s useful if you live in Scandinavia or frequent the region. SAS EuroBonus offers some of the best deals on flights to and within the region, plus great deals on other SkyTeam airlines.

This guide covers high-value ways to redeem SAS EuroBonus points for flights. We’ll start with an overview of the loyalty program’s award charts and how to earn SAS points. Then we’ll highlight the strongest SAS EuroBonus redemptions.

Booking Award Tickets With SAS EuroBonus

SAS EuroBonus uses a fixed-price, zone-based award chart for pricing award tickets. Flights are priced based on region and class of service.

There is a dynamic pricing component in EuroBonus, but it only applies to SAS-operated flights without saver-level award space. These tickets can be costly, so we recommend sticking with saver awards whenever possible.

EuroBonus has different award charts for its own flights and partner flights. SAS-operated award flights are priced reasonably, especially if you’re flying within Scandinavia or broader Europe.

These award prices are reasonable, and EuroBonus does not add fuel surcharges. You can book flights from the U.S. to Europe in business class and pay just $5.60 in taxes and fees. Other routes have very reasonable taxes and fees, though they vary by where you’re flying to and from.

The Nordic+ region includes Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, and Sweden. The European region includes other countries in broader Europe: Albania, Armenia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Georgia, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Türkiye, Ukraine, and United Kingdom.

Partner awards are reasonably priced, too. You can view the full partner award chart on SAS’s website, but below you’ll find the carrier’s award chart for partner flights departing North America. These round-trip prices apply to all SkyTeam partner flights.

You can book one-way partner award tickets with SAS EuroBonus points, but you’ll pay 60% of the round-trip price with most partners. This means a one-way economy award ticket within North America costs 15,000 EuroBonus points, plus taxes and fees, since a round-trip ticket costs 25,000 points. Some airlines, including Air Europa, China Airlines, and Vietnam Airlines, charge double points.

Earning SAS EuroBonus Points

SAS EuroBonus points are harder to earn than other airline miles, largely because the program does not have a U.S. co-branded credit card or a transfer partnership with a major U.S. transferable points program. However, there are a few ways to earn SAS EuroBonus points, even if you live in the U.S.

Fly With SAS And Its Airline Partners

On SAS flights, you earn a set amount of EuroBonus points per flight that varies based on where you fly and your class of service. You can view the earnings chart on SAS’s website.

Meanwhile, partner flights earn points based on booking class and distance flown. These rates vary by partner airline and are listed on SAS’s airline partners page.

Rent Cars and Book Hotels With SAS EuroBonus Partners

You can earn SAS EuroBonus points with the program’s rental car and hotel partners, which include most major rental car companies and select Scandinavian hotel groups. You can view the full list of partners on SAS’s website.

Transfer Rove Miles to SAS EuroBonus

Rove Miles is the only significant U.S.-based loyalty program that has transfers to SAS EuroBonus. The program isn’t affiliated with any airline, hotel, or credit card. You can earn miles by booking hotels and flights through Rove or via its shopping portal.

Transfers from Rove Miles to SAS EuroBonus process at a 1:1 ratio. Depending on how you plan to use your SAS EuroBonus points, this could be an excellent way to redeem your miles.

The Best Ways To Redeem SAS EuroBonus Points

The best ways to redeem SAS EuroBonus points range from short-haul flights within Scandinavia to long-haul business-class flights to Asia, Europe, and South America.

1. Book Economy Flights Within Scandinavia

If you’re traveling on domestic flights within Denmark, Norway, or Sweden, you can book flights for just 5,000 points, plus minimal taxes and fees. Meanwhile, traveling between these countries — or any other Nordic+ country — costs 10,000 points in economy class.

Some interesting routes to consider include:

  • Copenhagen (CPH), Denmark, to Aalborg (AAL), Denmark, for 5,000 points
  • Oslo (OSL), Norway, to Longyearbyen (LYR), Norway, for 5,000 points
  • Gdańsk (GDN), Poland, to Copenhagen (CPH) to Billund (BLL), Denmark, for 10,000 points

2. SAS Flights From North America or Asia to Scandinavia

SAS also offers reasonable award pricing on flights between Scandinavia and North America or Asia. You’ll pay 30,000 points in economy, 45,000 in premium economy, and 60,000 in business class for a one-way ticket on these routes. Business class is lower than many competing SkyTeam programs charge for transatlantic flights, especially from the West Coast. However, this pricing does not apply to SkyTeam partner flights.

Taxes and fees are reasonable, as most U.S. departures to Europe have just $5.60 in taxes and fees, and European departures have roughly $100.

SAS has a large route network to the U.S. If you’re considering a flight to Asia, you can fly to Bangkok (BKK); Seoul (ICN), South Korea; Tokyo (HND); and other cities. Some routes to consider include:

  • Chicago (ORD) to Copenhagen (CPH)
  • Los Angeles (LAX) to Copenhagen (CPH)
  • Miami (MIA) to Stockholm (ARN)

3. Delta One Business Class From the U.S. to Europe

These days, it’s hard to get a good deal on Delta One business class tickets to Europe. Delta SkyMiles uses dynamic pricing for award tickets, which almost always results in high mileage costs. Meanwhile, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club imposes high fuel surcharges on all award tickets, often over $500 each way in business class.

SAS EuroBonus solves for this by offering reasonable award rates with no fuel surcharges on Delta award tickets. From the U.S. to Europe, you’re looking at 130,000 points and under $200 in taxes and fees on most round-trip transatlantic partner flights. Meanwhile, you’ll pay 78,000 points for a one-way ticket since the program charges 60% of a round-trip fare for one-way partner bookings.

Some Delta One routes to consider include:

  • Atlanta (ATL) to Zurich (ZRH)
  • Boston (BOS) to Athens (ATH), Greece
  • New York (JFK) to Prague (PRG)

4. Business Class Flights From North America to East Asia on Korean Air and Other SkyTeam Partners

You can also find a reasonable deal on business class flights from North America to East Asia on Korean Air, China Airlines, Delta, and others. In our experience, Korean Air offers better award availability, especially on routes to smaller cities like Las Vegas (LAS).

While not the best pricing, SAS has more reasonable award rates from North America to East Asia. You can book partner tickets on these routes for 180,000 points round-trip or 108,000 points one-way in business class. As with other partner redemptions, you’ll pay only minimal taxes and fees on these tickets.

There are dozens of great SkyTeam routes to book to East Asia, including:

  • Atlanta (ATL) to Tokyo (HND) on Delta
  • Las Vegas (LAS) to Seoul (ICN) on Korean Air
  • Los Angeles (LAX) to Hong Kong (HKG) on Delta

5. Fly From North America to South America

SAS EuroBonus charges 50,000 or 100,000 points for round-trip flights from North America to South America in economy and business class, respectively. These rates can be appealing for long flights from the U.S. to Argentina, Brazil, and other South American destinations.

One-way award tickets on partner airlines cost 60% of the round-trip price, so you’ll pay 30,000 points in economy and 60,000 in business class.

You can book nonstop flights to South America with airline partners like Aerolíneas Argentinas and Delta, or connecting itineraries with Aeromexico. Some routes to consider include:

  • Chicago (ORD) to Mexico City (MEX) — Lima (LIM) on Aeromexico
  • Miami (MIA) to Buenos Aires (EZE), Argentina, on Aerolíneas Argentinas
  • New York (JFK) to Rio de Janeiro (GIG) on Delta

SAS also has a limited number of partners outside the alliance, including:

If you value EuroBonus points, consider crediting flights with these partners to your EuroBonus account. Likewise, Etihad and Widerøe can be good options for redeeming EuroBonus points if their route networks fit your travel needs.

Final Thoughts

SAS EuroBonus is often overlooked by American travelers since it’s not partnered with any major U.S. transferable points programs. However, the carrier’s extensive U.S. route network, fixed award charts, and recent partnership with Rove Miles make it worth a look, especially if you have an upcoming trip to Scandinavia.

Some of the best EuroBonus redemptions include domestic flights within Scandinavian countries and flights from the U.S. to Europe on SAS or Delta. Check the program’s award charts, and remember that one-way partner awards cost 60% of the round-trip price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does SAS EuroBonus charge fuel surcharges on award tickets?

No, SAS EuroBonus does not add fuel surcharges, even on partner-operated awards. Most departures from the U.S. to Asia, Europe, and other regions have just $5.60 in taxes and fees.

Can I transfer points from U.S. credit card programs to SAS EuroBonus?

No, SAS EuroBonus does not partner with any major transferable points programs. The only exception is Rove Miles, a relatively new transferable points program not affiliated with a credit card. You can earn these points when you book flights and hotels through the program’s travel portal or make purchases via the shopping portal.

Can I book one-way award tickets with SAS EuroBonus?

Yes, but there’s a catch. SAS one-way awards cost half the round-trip price, whereas most partner one-way awards cost 60% of the round-trip price.

What airline alliance is SAS a part of?

SAS joined SkyTeam in 2024 after Air France-KLM Group acquired a significant stake in the airline. It was previously a Star Alliance member.
