While remote work has been a thing since the advent of laptop computers, it wasn’t until the COVID-19 pandemic that remote work became a fact of life for millions of Americans.

Most people who travel for business are used to working from their hotels. Before the pandemic, I often tried to work from a hotel’s business center, which hotels rarely seemed to put much effort into. Often, simple tasks like printing a document were a tedious process.

In recent years, hotels have stepped their game up to attract travelers seeking a hotel to work and relax, investing more in their public spaces. In some hotel openings I cover, there’s often a ground-floor cafe, dedicated seating for remote workers, and lots of outlets to stay plugged in. Today, many hotels serve the dual purposes of lodging and workspaces. Some hotels, like the ultraluxe Aman brand, even have a membership program. 

New York City has no shortage of fabulous hotels that double as spaces for working remotely. Even better, some of the best can be booked with points. Whether you’re a native New Yorker looking for an alternate place to get work done that isn’t home or the office or a visitor searching for a hotel perfect for work and play, New York City has plenty of fine work hotels you can book with points.

Without further ado, here are the 6 best points hotels in New York for remote working.

1. 11 Howard (Marriott Bonvoy)

Perhaps best known as the temporary pad of the infamous “Soho grifter” Anna Delvey — who racked up a $30,000 bill at the hotel before being carted off to prison — 11 Howard is among the best hotels in Lower Manhattan for remote working.

A member of Marriott’s Design Hotels brand, 11 Howard’s 207 guest rooms and suites are tastefully designed and feel distinctly New York without the gaudiness some hotels in the city have. But the highlight of 11 Howard is its numerous public spaces, which you can visit whether you’re staying at the hotel or just need a quiet place to get work done.

The hotel’s second floor has a cozy space dubbed the Library. Here, you can order a coffee, tea, or something stronger and enjoy a space away from the busyness of the lobby and restaurant. The Wi-Fi is strong, which is a must for working remotely. Every time I’ve visited the Library at 11 Howard, it’s been extremely quiet and not at all packed. 

The Library is open between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., so you can take a business call during the day and unwind with a cocktail at night.

Cash prices at 11 Howard range between $250 and $500 per night. But if you have Marriott Bonvoy points, the hotel is a steal for Manhattan, ranging between 50,000 and 81,000 per night. If you’re running low and need to top up your balance, you can transfer American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, or Chase Ultimate Rewards to Marriott or open a co-branded credit card.

The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel, in Lower Manhattan is a favorite of New York TikTok influencers thanks to its gorgeous lobby.

It is also one of the best hotel lobbies to work from in New York if you don’t mind people popping in to take pictures of the 9-story atrium. The hotel is known as a spot with solid Wi-Fi, a quiet environment, and a massive lobby. You’ll never feel like you’re intruding on someone else’s work call here. Luckily, you don’t need to be staying at the hotel to work from the lobby. 

However, if you’re looking for a luxe hotel in Lower Manhattan, you won’t find a better deal than at the Beekman. That’s because the hotel represents one of the best values for World of Hyatt loyalists in the Big Apple. 

As it’s a Category 6 hotel, award nights start at 21,000 World of Hyatt points per night on off-peak dates, 25,000 points on standard nights, and 29,000 points on peak nights. Cash rates usually hover around $600 per night. The quickest way to earn World of Hyatt points for a redemption is to transfer points from Bilt Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards at a 1:1 ratio or to have a Hyatt co-branded credit card.

3. Kimpton Hotel Eventi (IHG One Rewards)

Kimpton Hotel Eventi is one of my favorite hotels in New York. Located in the posh Chelsea neighborhood, the hotel is close to numerous attractions, such as Chelsea Market, the High Line, Madison Square Garden, and numerous art galleries and museums. 

The gorgeous Kimpton Living Room is at the back of the ground-floor lobby. With dark finishes and a fireplace, the Living Room is a cozy place to work for the day. When the weather’s nice, there’s also a 15,000-square-foot, multilevel public plaza out back with a 30-foot multimedia art screen. 

Both the Living Room and the plaza have Wi-Fi, and there’s plenty of seating to go around. The bar is just a few feet away, and you can order alcoholic, nonalcoholic, and caffeinated beverages here. This is one of the best hotel lobbies open to the public in New York City, and you don’t need a reservation to work here.

Cash rates at the Kimpton Hotel Eventi vary wildly, starting at $250 on the low end and nearly $700 on the high end. If you want to use IHG One Rewards points to stay here, award nights start at around 50,000 points.

4. The New York EDITION (Marriott Bonvoy)

Not to be confused with The Times Square EDITION — that’s a mile and a half away — The New York EDITION is a low-key, swanky flagship property in the Flatiron District in Manhattan. If you’re looking for quiet hotels in New York City, look no further than the Lobby Bar. 

The Lobby Bar has prime views of Madison Square Park. It is known as a gathering spot for guests and locals alike and has strong Wi-Fi. You can order drinks and light bites while you work. With neutrally toned furniture and accents, the Lobby Bar at The New York EDITION is a much-needed, calming space in the middle of busy Manhattan. 

Prices here usually start at $600 per night but can be over $1,000. With such high prices, I recommend booking with Marriott Bonvoy points. Standard rooms here start as low as 64,000 points per night.

5. The Park Hyatt New York (World of Hyatt)

The Park Hyatt New York is a personal favorite of mine. In fact, I try to have at least 1 staycation there each year.

The Park Hyatt is synonymous with luxury. It’s in a prime location in Midtown, on 57th Street, and has one of the city’s best spas and indoor pools. However, the hotel is less known for its beautiful Living Room restaurant and bar, meant to evoke the style of a luxury New York apartment. I enjoy studying and reading in the Living Room when staying at the Park Hyatt, but I probably wouldn’t use it for more involved work.

The hotel is among the most expensive World of Hyatt hotels in the Big Apple, and this is true whether you’re paying cash or using points. While cash rates hover around $700 — and frequently top $1,000 per night — you can expect to shell out a considerable number of points. A Category 8 hotel, the Park Hyatt New York requires 35,000 World of Hyatt points per night on off-peak dates, 40,000 points on standard nights, and 45,000 points on peak nights.

6. Graduate by Hilton New York (Hilton Honors)

Graduate by Hilton New York is the only hotel on Roosevelt Island. It is just steps from Cornell Tech and the F subway line, which runs in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. It makes sense that a brand known for catering to university students and their parents would have ample working spaces.

The hotel has 224 guest rooms, but the property’s highlights are on the ground floor and rooftop. The ground floor has a beautiful communal space where people work, read, and relax. It’s covered from floor to ceiling in books, making the space look like a bookstore. There’s tons of seating and outlets and complimentary Wi-Fi. The top floor hosts the Panorama Room, a bar and lounge with absolutely stunning views of Manhattan. 

Cash rates start around $250 per night but can be as high as $600 nightly, depending on your travel dates. Award rates, however, are standard: You can expect to pay 80,000 Hilton Honors points per night to stay here. Luckily, Hilton Honors points are some of the most straightforward hotel points to earn. Hilton Honors also offers a host of co-branded credit cards, which include generous welcome offers. Additionally, American Express Membership Rewards and Bilt Rewards are transfer partners with Hilton.
