Although I have visited Taiwan several times, I always find myself returning, as Taipei has become one of my favorite cities worldwide. It is home to the best night markets anywhere on earth, delicious bubble tea, and incredibly welcoming people.

Fortunately, Taipei also has many nice hotels across every major Western hotel chain. After narrowing my options, I ultimately booked the Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang for my July 2025 stay.

Read on for my full review of the Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang and why you should (or shouldn’t) consider this property if you travel to Taipei.

Booking the Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang

Although I had several free night certificates available across nearly every major Western hotel chain, I decided to book something that was a little less expensive (whether with cash or points) since my wife was not with me on this trip.

Fortunately, Taipei has several excellent hotels. After a look at some properties, I opted for the Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang.

Paying Cash vs. Using Points

The Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang is a Category 1 World of Hyatt hotel, meaning that award nights start at just 3,500 points per night and can be as high as 6,500 points per night. Since the night I would book fell in the standard season, the hotel could be booked for 5,000 points per night.

However, before booking with points, I wanted to see the cash rate for the 1-night stay to see if I was getting good value for my points (as I do with all my award bookings). A standard room could be booked for NT$4,273 (about $150), including all taxes and fees.

According to our valuations, World of Hyatt points are worth 1.5 cents per point, making 5,000 points worth $75. Since the cash rates were nearly twice the value of the points, this was an excellent use of World of Hyatt points.

I booked a (1) Standard King room, the only standard room that could be booked using points. Although I no longer have World of Hyatt Globalist status, I still have Discoverist status with The World of Hyatt Credit Card, and I hoped it would get me upgraded to a nicer room.

Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang Location

The Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang is in the Xinzhuang District of the New Taipei City section of Taipei. The property is less than a 15-minute walk from New Taipei Industrial Park Station, which can easily connect you to the rest of Taipei.

Nearby attractions include the Taiwan Film & Audiovisual Institute, Honhui Plaza shopping mall, New Taipei City Exhibition Hall, and the Wenzidi Wetland Park.

Although the property is within walking distance of Taipei’s public transportation network, it is still far from many of the city’s main tourist sites, including Taipei 101, Taipei Confucius Temple, Raohe Street Night Market, and Elephant Mountain.

Getting There

The Hyatt Place New Taipei Xinzhuang is a 35-minute drive from Taipei’s Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE).

If you are arriving from Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA), Taipei’s smaller airport, the journey takes approximately 30 minutes by car.

You can also reach the property using public transportation. The hotel is less than a 15-minute walk from New Taipei Industrial Park Station, an Airport Express line stop connecting TPE and the city center. The express train journey takes 28 minutes and costs NT$150 ($5).

Checking In

After arriving from the airport, I proceeded straight to the hotel’s check-in desk, to the left as you enter the lobby.

Check-in desk.

I was greeted by a front desk representative, who welcomed me to the hotel and requested my passport for identification.

After verifying my reservation, the hotel representative mentioned that my rate did not include breakfast and that it could be purchased for NT$462 (about $15). He then handed me my room key cards and directed me to the guest floor elevators.

He was swift and completed the entire check-in process within 2 minutes. Unfortunately, he provided no information about the hotel or its amenities.

Bottom Line:

I was pretty tired from my journey from Tokyo, so I appreciated how efficient and quick the check-in process was. I walked into the hotel and had my room key cards within 2 minutes, which was incredibly efficient.

Elite Benefits

As a World of Hyatt Discoverist, I was entitled to several benefits, including:

  • 2 p.m. late checkout upon request
  • Complimentary internet
  • Complimentary bottle of water daily
  • Room upgrade based on availability upon arrival

Lobby

At the lobby’s center was a large seating area with a sectional sofa and several armchairs. There was enough seating for about 10 people.

To the left of the check-in desk and near the entrance to the lobby, there was a corner seating area. It also held the Market (more on this below in the Food and Beverages section).

Nearby was a cotton candy machine, the first time I had seen one in a hotel lobby. The cotton candy machine only accepted credit cards for payment.

Lastly, the guest floor elevators were through a corridor to the right of the check-in desk.

Across the hall was a pet-friendly elevator for guests who’d brought their pets to the hotel. I thought this was a unique touch.

1 King Bed, High Floor Room

I got off the elevators on the 19th floor and walked to my room, 1916.

Room 1916.

Upon entering the room, I was pleasantly surprised by its ample space. The entrance to the bathroom was to the right. There was a small foyer that led to the living quarters of the room.

On the right was a luggage storage space with a marble countertop, which was just large enough to stow my 2 bags.

There were 2 pull-out drawers in the unit directly below the countertop. The top drawer was empty, but the bottom one held the room’s safe.

The room’s workstation was against the left wall. The desk had a single lamp and a standard swiveling seat.

The room’s television was mounted on the wall directly above the workstation.

Some drawers held a coffee machine, an electric kettle, an ice bucket, and glassware. The room’s small minifridge was to the right, embedded into the unit. The hotel had placed 2 complimentary water bottles in there, which was a nice gesture.

The minifridge could only hold a few water bottles.

To the right was an open closet with plenty of additional storage space. Several hangers were provided.

To the right was a tall yet not-so-deep storage space. The unit was deep enough to hold my smaller bag, but my carry-on roller bag could not fit.

The room’s Cozy Corner, with a sofa sleeper and an ottoman, was in the corner across from the workstation. There was also a sofa tray table, which I used to have a meal while relaxing on the sofa.

The sofa was so incredibly comfortable that I took a nap despite the king bed being just a few steps away.

The bed was next to the Cozy Corner and was incredibly comfortable. It had 4 thick pillows, and I appreciated the quality of the bedding.

The bed was between 2 wall-mounted side tables, each featuring mounted night lamps.

Above the right table, there were wall-mounted controls for the lights, privacy, and opening or closing the room’s roller shades.

Lastly, the room offered views, but they were limited. Directly across from the hotel was a residential building, a few other nearby structures, and a parking lot.

Bottom Line:

Overall, the room was relatively basic but exceptionally clean, with thoughtfully chosen design elements and furniture. In fact, I’d say it was one of the best Hyatt Place rooms I’ve stayed in. Everything was spotless, and each piece of furniture felt purposeful and well-placed. I appreciated the minimalist aesthetic — it reminded me of how my apartment is decorated, creating a comfortable, homey feel.

Bathroom

The bathroom was near the entrance to the room. As you walked in, the shower was directly to the right.

It featured a handheld shower head and KenetMD shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

The rest of the bathroom was past the shower room. There was a single vanity with a relatively deep sink. The hotel provided 2 additional complimentary water bottles. Additional towels were neatly stored to the left of the sink.

Amenities

As expected of any Hyatt Place hotel, the Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang offered several amenities for guests.

Outdoor Swimming Pool

The Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang featured a rooftop pool on the third floor, open daily between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Fitness Center

The hotel had 24-hour-a-day, fully equipped fitness room on the third floor near the door leading to the swimming pool. Although the fitness center was rather basic, it satisfied all my needs.

There was a good selection of cardio equipment, including different types of stationary bikes, an elliptical, and several treadmills.

There was also some Matrix-branded strength training equipment, including a leg curl and leg extension machine and a shoulder and chest press combination machine.

A single total-body workout machine was in the corner of the fitness center. It featured diagrams illustrating how to use it, along with information on which exercises targeted specific muscle groups.

Lastly, there was a great selection of free weights, some as heavy as 25 kilograms (55 pounds), with 2 benches.

The hotel also featured a room called the Commons on the 19th floor, available for guest use. It included a microwave and glassware.

There was also a small laundry room in the corner, equipped with 2 washing machines and 2 dryers and clear instructions on how to operate them.

Shuttle Service

The hotel offered a free shuttle bus service to the nearby Honhui Plaza shopping mall. I didn’t use it, since the plaza was a short walk away.

Pet-Friendly Accomodation

The hotel offered pet-friendly accommodations for guests with dogs or cats. To bring a pet, guests must book a Furamily Premium Holiday package. Up to 2 pets are permitted in each room.

Parking

Complimentary on-site self-parking was available to all in-house guests.

Food and Beverages

The Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang featured a single eatery.

Cing Yán

The hotel’s restaurant, Cing Yán, offered a buffet with Chinese and Western options. It was open for breakfast on weekdays from 6:30 to 10 a.m. and on weekends from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m.

It was open for lunch every day of the week from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and for dinner from 5 to 9:30 p.m.

The Market

Located in the hotel lobby near the check-in desk, the Market offered a variety of snacks and beverages.

Unlike most Hyatt Place hotels that offer freshly prepared grab-and-go food items, the Market at the Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang featured a single vending machine with various snacks and drinks.

Service

I had minimal interactions with the staff during my stay, but overall, everything went smoothly. Whenever I had questions or needed assistance, they were available and willing to help. There was no language barrier, which made communication easy.

However, the staff mostly kept to themselves — they weren’t particularly warm or engaging, and smiles were rare. They did their job efficiently but without much enthusiasm or friendliness.

Final Thoughts

The Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang is a solid property in the New Taipei area of Taipei, Taiwan. The room was spacious, thoughtfully laid out, and included everything I needed for a comfortable stay. I especially appreciated the minimalist design and the functional furniture choices.

However, the hotel does have drawbacks. The location wasn’t ideal and felt too far from many of the city’s main tourist attractions, making getting around a little less convenient despite Taipei’s world-class public transportation.

Additionally, I was disappointed that breakfast wasn’t included with a standard room booked using points. This felt like a letdown for a brand like Hyatt Place, which typically offers complimentary breakfast.

Still, if you’re looking for an inexpensive hotel to book with points in Taipei, consider the Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang. Next time, however, I will likely pay more to be closer to the city center.
