I recently spent a night near the Boston airport, due to a late arrival and the fact that I was continuing to another city the next morning. Staying near the airport and easily getting to my hotel were the primary considerations, which is why I chose the Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor.

This Category 4 World of Hyatt property had a decent list of amenities, rooms that met my needs, and friendly staff. Nothing from the experience was particularly eye-popping, but I did get a good night’s sleep and was generally happy with the overall experience. Additionally, I redeemed Hyatt points at nearly 2.1 cents each for my stay, which is well above the average.

If you’re considering a stay at this property, here are 6 things you should know about the Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor.

Location of Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor

The Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor is conveniently located near Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), with a shuttle service providing a quick 10-minute commute in either direction between the hotel and the airport.

The hotel’s location makes it ideal for spending a night close to the airport before an early flight or getting to bed quickly if you arrive at BOS late at night. To be clear, this is a free-standing hotel that’s not connected to the airport.

Booking Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor

During my 1-night stay in early November, the Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor was charging $271 for its basic rooms, which featured either 2 double beds or 1 king bed. After taxes and the hotel’s destination fee of $21.75 (detailed below), the total rate was $314.87.

Since the Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor is a Category 4 property in the World of Hyatt program, you can book it for 15,000 points on standard nights. You’ll pay just 12,000 points on off-peak dates or 18,000 points on peak dates. You can also book a night here using a Category 1-4 free night award.

6 Things To Know About Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor

1. There’s a 24/7 Complimentary Shuttle

The hotel offers a 24/7 shuttle service between the front entrance and the airport’s terminals. On arrival at the Boston airport, call 617-568-1234 to request pickup. The front desk agent will inform you of the shuttle’s location, based on the terminal you’re in.

2. The Hotel Offers Great Benefits, but the Resort Fee Still Isn’t Justifiable

I was impressed by the benefits listed while checking in at the hotel. I stopped being impressed once I realized these perks are offered to everyone, not just Hyatt elite members, and they’re offered in exchange for the resort fee.

The hotel’s destination fee, essentially a resort fee, is $21.75 plus tax per room, but it is charged only once per stay, not daily. Inclusions for this fee are Wi-Fi, a daily cup of New England clam chowder, a $10 food credit for dinner at the Harborside Grill restaurant, access to various hotel amenities, and gifts from the hotel, including chocolates and a magnet.

Many of these perks should be included at no charge for World of Hyatt members, such as Wi-Fi and daily bottled water. Other perks feel silly, such as “access” to deals and the inclusion of long-distance phone calls.

While the dining credit and clam chowder are interesting, these aren’t worth $21.75 plus tax in my opinion. The fee is even less justifiable when you subtract nonvaluable items. The list of perks is nice, but I don’t think it’s $21.75-plus-tax nice.

Hot Tip:

Those with Hyatt Globalist status are exempt from paying resort or destination fees on all stays. All World of Hyatt members get these fees waived when staying on points or free night awards. This fee covers many items you may not care about or believe should be provided at no cost, so it’s worth avoiding this fee whenever possible.

3. Bedrooms Are Simple but Have All the Necessities

The standard rooms at the Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor are simple in many ways. That doesn’t mean they’re bad; they lack no necessities.

The rooms feature a seating area in the corner, a desk and chair, a coffee maker, and a TV. However, there are some modern touches of technology, including the sound system that can play music from your smartphone and the outlets on the side of the desk.

Near the room’s entrance is a small closet with a few hangers, some shelves, a folding luggage rack, and a small safe, as well as an iron and an ironing board.

Depending on which side of the hotel you’re on, you might have a view over the harbor toward downtown Boston.

Bathroom

Bathrooms are also on the simple side but have all the essential features. I found a few pieces of artwork, a decent amount of counter space, and a backlit mirror, along with sliding glass doors to a shower-tub combo.

4. The Fitness Center Is Modest

The Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor has a small gym that’s free for guests to use. One wall of the gym is lined with mirrors, and both free weights and multifunction weight machines are available. The fitness center also features several cardio machines, including bikes and treadmills, as well as exercise balls and resistance bands for use.

5. The On-Site Restaurant Is Great

Located a few steps down from the ground floor, immediately past the reception area upon arrival at the hotel, the Harborside Grill is the sole restaurant at the hotel. It serves 3 meals daily, including a breakfast buffet, lunch until 3 p.m., and dinner until 10 p.m. There’s also a bar that serves drinks until 11 p.m.

The restaurant’s best feature is the views it offers of the harbor and downtown Boston, and outdoor seating is available during the warmer months.

The breakfast buffet lacks “wow” elements, but it offers a decent variety. You’ll find hot dishes like scrambled eggs, sausages, and pancakes, along with items like oatmeal, fresh fruits, and pastries.

Staff can bring coffee and orange juice to your table. The buffet also featured a mysterious bottle labeled as fresh-squeezed juice. It resembled watermelon to me, but I opted for orange juice from the server instead.

6. Amenities Offer What You Expect

The Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor had multiple meeting and event rooms available, found 1 floor above the ground level.

A small business center was also located near the lobby, featuring a computer, printer, and ATM.

The elevators were clean, worked well, and arrived quickly. Additionally, guest floors featured vending machines that sold Pepsi products.

None of these amenities added any jaw-dropping elements to my stay, but they offer something for everyone.

Final Thoughts

I liked the 1 night I spent at the Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor. Given that I was arriving at Boston’s airport late in the evening and staying only 1 night, the hotel’s location was its main draw. The complimentary shuttle, which ran around the clock, was also a bonus.

However, it also provided a good breakfast experience, a decent room, and a good list of benefits — though I wouldn’t be willing to pay the destination fee to receive them.
