American Express recently announced major changes to its popular American Express® Gold Card. The majority of these changes involve new dining credits and an alteration of dining credit retailers.

As a result of these recent updates, Amex Gold cardholders will also notice an annual fee increase, which will now be $325 (rates & fees).

One notable improvement, however, is the addition of statement credits of up to $100 annually for purchases made at U.S. Resy restaurants or other eligible Resy purchases.

Let’s have a look at what the refreshed Amex Gold card now offers. Then we’ll get into the specifics of the new Resy statement credit.

What Is the Amex Gold Card Resy Credit?

The Amex Gold card now offers up to $100 in annual Resy credits, following in the footsteps of 4 of the Amex Delta co-branded cards, which already include Resy statement credits as part of their benefits.

The statement credits are issued semiannually, with a credit of up to $50 from January to June and a credit of up to $50 from July to December for a total of $100 annually. Qualifying purchases are only valid at U.S. restaurants that accept Resy bookings or other eligible Resy purchases.

To receive the credit, cardholders only need to pay their restaurant bill with their enrolled Amex Gold card at any restaurant listed on the Resy platform.

Enrollment is required to be eligible to receive Resy statement credits.

According to the terms and conditions from American Express, “Eligible Resy purchases include purchases at U.S. restaurants that offer reservations on Resy.com and the Resy app, and purchases made directly on Resy.com or in the Resy app. Restaurants must be live on Resy.com or the Resy app at time of purchase to be eligible for the statement credit and are subject to change at any time. Purchases made via Resy Pay and purchases of Resy OS restaurant management software are not eligible.”

Additionally, non-dining purchases, such as merchandise or gift cards, are ineligible. You also cannot receive the credit if you make the purchase with your electronic wallet or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process your purchase.

To be eligible to receive the Resy statement credits, you must first enroll for the benefit. You can enroll online through the Benefits Dashboard or by calling the number on the back of your card. Are the Amex Gold Card Resy Credits Worth It?

Although up to $100 in annual credits to use when dining at restaurants on the Resy platform may appear to be a great deal, customers will need to book or visit a Resy-affiliated restaurant to activate the credit.

Many cardholders would have found a $100 annual credit for dining at any restaurant to be even more valuable. This is particularly true for food lovers who appreciate the Amex Gold card, which is widely regarded as the issuer’s top card for dining. Naturally, maximizing a statement credit on an American Express card can’t be that simple.

For individuals who enjoy eating out frequently and consider themselves “foodies,” the recently introduced Resy statement credit may be a practical means of saving costs on a nice meal.

Final Thoughts

Although we are not fond of annual fee increases on our favorite travel rewards cards, the Amex Gold card’s new Resy statement credits of up to $100 easily outweigh the fee increase, provided that cardholders can maximize the credits on a semiannual basis.
